I wouldn't want to be taking on the next few years of cap jail, along with the potential to be the GM that lost McDavid and Draisaitl if they can't be re-signed. Probably a good move on Holland's part.

Oilers don't really need a GM when they have McDavid calling the shots.

Ken Holland leaving another team in cap hell on his way out.

Hilarious.

Most overrated GM in NHL history.

some of these GMs are hilarious. Push the chips in, put their teams in cap hell, fail and then go "my work here is done". And another franchise just happily takes them on.

Absolutely mind-boggling.

LOL at "beginning of a new dynasty". The NHL just can't get enough of the old guard. I wonder what person from McDavid's circle will be hired as Oilers GM?

Meh. Every GM they've gotten, some CPers think "oh no they have someone competent now", and it's always the same. I remember when they hired ChiaPete. People were convinced they were going to turn a corner.

McDavid's old agent is finally ready to be put in a position to continue to do whatever his former client tells him. Make it so.

Oilers operations remain a mess of nepotism and has-beens. Still have Keith Gretzky (the other gretzky, asst GM), Paul Coffey (special advisor to owner, middle finger giver), Brad Holland (asst GM and son of boss who just left), and Bob Nicholson (yeesh)

Ken Holland's favorite thing in the world (at least since Dan Cleary retired) is bad defensemen on worse contracts. The Oilers don't have the assets to trade for any of those.

But Chicago sure does.

(he did accidentally get a good defenseman when he traded for Ekholm, but you know. Stopped clocks and all that.)

Why in the world would they need to trade for one?
Holland had a home grown bad defenseman on a worse contract in Nurse.
It's the one thing they actually managed to develop internally, aside from #1 draft picks.
