Default Hockey News Mount Rushmore.

https://thehockeynews.com/news/ranki...24-28JqbNDzfGw

Hockey News is doing a Mount Rushmore for every team, the only rule is one of them has to be currently on the team.

The Flames Mt. Rushmore is Iginla, MacInnis, Kiprusoff and Kadri.

Kind of ruins the concept of a mount rushmore when one needs to be a current player.

Iggy, Lanny, MacInnis, and Kipper is the only correct answer in my opinion. But if we have to pick a current Flame to put in there it's definitely Backlund.

What a tired, hackneyed premise.

Can't wait for the season to begin.

alright I will relax
And when Oiler fans talk #### we can point out Kadri's cup ring while knocking those losers out

There are quite a few teams with pretty good histories that are currently in a big lull. Like asking Montreal or Detroit to make a player on their current roster part of this is asinine.

Iggy, Lanny, MacInnis, D. Sutter(still under contract with the team lol)

That said, I agree with Lewis it has to be Backlund from the current roster.

Ken Campbell is horrible. He's one of the reasons I ended my subscription to THN. He's not a jerk or anything. But his opinions are just terrible.

Case in point this article. If you're doing a Mt. Rushmore, whats the logic for one player having to be current? That makes zero sense

Even if you do have to have a current player, the obvious choice is Backlund.

#2 All time Games Played (BTW, less than 3 full seasons from #1)
#8 All time in Points
#11 All time in Goals
#10 All time in Assists

Kadri? I like the dude but on the team for 2 seasons and arguably pretty much the same career as Backlund minus the Cup. What a weird choice.

Tell me Ken Campbell doesn't watch or follow the Flames without telling Ken Campbell doesn't watch or follow the Flames. This Mount Rushmore does it.

It's heresy but I'd have a few players before Lanny. He's not top 5 in any big category except single season goals. Iggy, Macinnis, Kipper are locks. The 4th? If Fleury wasn't a d-bag it'd be him. Newy and Gaudreau are next up in most normal categories.

Unpopular but IMO Lanny's rep as a Flame is bigger than his actual contribution.

Here's the real Mount Rushmore, but instead of Lincon, here's a stone mug of Joe Biden.

For real, each original six team you could do a Mount Rushmore for every decade, every 5 years.

Keep in mind that the actual Mount Rushmore is not supposed to be the four greatest presidents, but 4 presidents who represent 4 eras of US history up to that point -- the nation's birth (Washington), growth (Jefferson), development (T. Roosevelt), and preservation (Lincoln).

If we're talking about just the Calgary era of the Flames, Lanny was very much the George Washington of the franchise.

How about Chicago LOL.

Bedard has to be their current guy.

Then pick 3 from:

Hull
Mikita
Pilote
Hall
Toews
Kane
Keith

It also sucks. I hate that every conversation about the greats in different fields has to reference this American joke of a landmark.

I think you have to put Fleury on there. I get he's kind of a PoS -but the guy has had an incredibly rough road in life, I just see a guy in a lot of pain who hasn't been able to really recover from his past trauma.

Off topic, but I still think Gary Suter should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. This might be a hot take, but I think he was better than Kevin Lowe.
Suter is 4th all time in US defense scoring, behind only Housley, Leetch, and Chelios.

Except Washington was there from the start and stayed on front and centre for a lengthy period of time. Lanny was added year 2, had a monster goalscoring year in his 3rd year here (but was way behind Nilsson in points), then faded into being a role player. If we are going eras:

80-85: Nilsson
85-95: MacInnis
95-mid10s: Iggy
mid10-2020s: Gaudreau
