Default Leafs 4 Flames 3

Leafs 4 Flames 3

- Matthews hat trick
- Vladar solid
- Huberdeau two assists

I'm off tomorrow night to Thailand so I'm guessing no game stories next week.

If I find a way to watch the games I'll do game stories, but if not I guess it's a break!

Huberdeau with 2 points and some great plays. I get kind of excited when he has the puck now.

But also a horrible blind pass in the third and man, when he doesn’t have the puck in his own zone, he just doesn’t know what to do. He and Sharangovich are good at one end of the ice but both are listless in their own end . I guess that has always been the book on Huberdeau.

Love Huberdeau but on that first Leaf’s goal, correct me if I’m wrong, before the leafs player crossed the blue line Huberdeau was literally right behind him. All he had to do was back check the guy and the play is over before it even reaches the blue line. He didn’t do anything! He’s been back checking pretty good lately but this was a game changer with less than 2 minutes left in the first period.

There was a sequence in the third when the Lindholm line was hemmed in and it was just a shooting gallery. 10 and 17 were just taking up space out there.

He has been better lately so I don't want to start a new crapfest on the guy. He certainly needs the right linemates.

I don’t think he missed a backcheck there. He just wasn’t fast enough to catch him. But in any event that goal was all about the 3rd pairing bobbling the play. It was one on two and they blew it.

I don't buy this for the Preds...or the Kings even

1 win in 11 games...this must be moneypuck nonsense based on fancy stats. Flames were like 80% all year last season according to them

Well, yeah, that's kind of how percentages work. It also meant that they had 20% odds of missing the playoffs. Teams can't be 80% into the playoffs.

Didn't realize Huberdeau had two apples.

He was excellent in that game, which was lost in the disappointment.

Looks like an elite passer right now. Dare I say even more impressive than Johnny (JG was the superior puck handler though).

I get it but the Flames were out of a spot the entire time lol

if these are money puck odds they go by fancy stats, I mean nobody that has watched the Kings play lately thinks they are 62% for the playoffs...I'm not saying the Flames necessarily either but with 1 win in 11 games come on now.

His vision is unreal.

He sees things others just don't...and it's interesting because there are times where I think if others saw what he saw he'd have more goals too.

He makes some interesting reads into open areas that if he gets the puck would be sure goals...but the other guys don't have those same reads as him and just don't see the play develop that way.

Didn't get to watch much of the game last night, but watching Real Kyper and Bourne right now and Kypreos is saying how he was expecting a lot more from the Flames based on their recent win streak and what has been reported by other media members. Basically, he said he was not impressed at all by the play of the Flames.

Pens lost to the Hawks at home and missed the playoffs putting the Panthers in

hockey is unpredictable

4-4 game with the "cup contender" Leafs though

For a lot of his passes the person he’s passing to isn’t ready or expecting his pass. I think that’s a big problem for some of his lack of production at times. We don’t have anyone smart enough to play with him.

Maybe but I wouldn’t have pegged Bennett or Duclair as exceptionally high IQ players versus the likes of Backlund and Coleman, etc. I think he has found some chemistry with Lindholm and Sharangovich finally, leading to him being over PPG in January. It’s be great if a defenceman could read some of those passes into open space in the high slot.

Yeah you don't need exceptional hockey IQ to be ready for a pass, it just takes familiarity.
