Will be interesting to seem them against the LA Kings. I think this team has been really solid to watch to date. Lot of resilience, team work and surging youth with Markstrom providing MVP goaltending.

Markstrom was solid - played really well positionally, and was really efficient - just like last game. He is on a role, and I would imagine there is some serious interest in him, around the league (like CAR and NJD for instance)

NHL strength of schedule has the Flames with the 11th easiest schedule the rest of the way.

Only teams in the West playoff with an easier schedule is Edmonton (6th)

and yer remarkably they (EDM) are mid their first back to back of the season only now ( I realize issues like that aren't factored into SOS)

I'm not really playoff watching for the Flames yet- mostly agree with your tiers. Preds should be sitting well, but if this were- to be honest- most versions of the Flames, as a fan I would not be taking 67% to the bank. heck I'm often sweating when its 90% and 3 games to go

I think of all of our players Markstrom probably adds the most value for a playoff team. The fact he’s not a UFA probably tempers that.

But we have 3 goalies. He’s the guy I would be trying to move. If you could move his cap hit it would open up a lot of options.

I heard DeSimone will have to go on waivers to be sent back down.

Most PO teams have a decent goalie already. They usually need depth. I could see Colorado thinking he's an upgrade over Goergiev though. And they could use a longer term goalie than the flipping they've done lately.

Markstrom/Lindholm for who? Picks, Byram, Johansen (for cap),

Not this year.

NJD and CAR are both in a desperate need to upgrade. EDM should be desperate (but common sense is not at all common there). COL may not be desperate, but Markstrom improves them significantly.

And he has enough term to give contending teams some security for their window.

I have to comment on my favourite per peeve - PDO for players. You started out fine, talking about team PDO. If team save % and shooting % are well above average then the team is on heater and is likely to cool off, though a good goaltender can add a permanent bias. I thought you were going to compare the Flames' team PDO to Vancouver and Boston. Are they lucky or unlucky?

Instead we get player PDO which to me is meaningless. Sharangovich doesn't play goal so it doesn't make sense to hang a poor save percentage on him. Could he contribute by bad defence? Perhaps, but aren't there much better ways to measure defensive prowess? We always say +/- is a poor stat since just being on the ice doesn't mean you contributed to the goal for or against. Likewise you shouldn't attribute save % to the player.

Now if we're using PDO just to say good or bad team things happen when he's on the ice without it reflecting on his individual performance, then I guess, but that's a pretty soft stat.

maybe I misunderstand what either you or Bingo are saying because I feel like you are on the same side- I think you are both agreeing that more pucks that expected are going in with 17 on the ice and that's not likely to be his fault

Yeah exactly.

No indictment on the player at all.
