Flames Flames prospect @ 2024 WJC

Flames have only 1 prospect at world junior camps. Honzek for Slovakia.

Morin didn't get an invite for Canada. Lipinski didn't get an invite for USA. Suniev would have probably got consideration if Russia wasn't banned from IIHF tournaments. Ronni likely would have been a return player for Finland if he wasn't about to be on trial.

We got some lines from Slovakia camp today.

https://twitter.com/user/status/1735605208460259578

NHL drafted players on that roster:
LW/C Honzek - Flames - 2023 1st rnd 16th OA
LW/C Sykora - Rangers - 2022 2nd rnd 63rd OA
W/C Zlnka - Coyotes - 2022 7th rnd 204th OA
C/RW Petrovsky - Wild - 2022 6th rnd 185th OA
LW/C Pekarcik - Blues - 2023 3rd rnd 76th OA
RW Misiak - Blackhawks - 2023 2nd rnd 55th OA
RW Mesar - Canadiens - 2022 1st rnd 26th OA
C/RW Dvorsky - Blues - 2023 1st rnd 10th OA
LW/RW Ciernik - Flyers - 2023 4th rnd 120th OA
D Strbak - Sabres - 2023 2nd rnd 45th OA
G Gazan - Blackhawks - 2023 2nd rnd 35th OA

Honzek on a line with Repick and Mesar.
Mesar being the pick the Habs got from the Flames in the Toffoli trade. Repcik is undrafted, but is having a pretty good year. His 1.31 points per game would rank 12th in the QMJHL at the moment. He may be a candidate to be drafted in the 2024 draft after being skipped over in 2023.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Honzek on a line with Dvorsky at some point especially if the Slovaks are looking to load up a line with offense. Dvorsky has a high pedigree and his 1.70 points per game ranks 5th in the OHL at the moment.

Slovakia has a decent set of forwards on paper, biggest hole will probably be d-men especially with Simon Nemec not being released to play.

I guess I'm on team Slovakia for this tournament then.

I really have to brush up on my Slovakian accent marks. No idea what most of those mean.

Obviously it is 100% the right thing, but it sucks not having Russia at these tournaments. This is a really good generation of younger players from Russia, and not seeing them matched up best on best sucks as a hockey fan.

Flames "prospect" @ world juniors lol

Well, if we're gonna have a crap NHL team, at least it's nice to know the cupboard is fully stocked haha

Picks Connie, picks picks picks picks picks picks picks.

Go Honzek.

Ronni would be playing for Finland if not for the rape allegations.

Every year the same thing! The Flames never seem to have anyone playing in the world juniors! Lucky to have one this year I suppose

Coronato, Zary, Pelletier played in recent years but yes it's a bit of a concern that after that it's looking a little barren.

Flames prospects drafted since 2018, Coronato, Zary, Pelletier, Stromgren, Ronni, Wolf, Kuznetzov, Nikolaev, Roman, Zavgorodniy and Pospisil all made it for their respective teams. Sergeev would have been a strong candidate if Russia played last year

Right. And these kids have nothing to do with any of the crap that's going on over there

It's not surprising. This WJC is a lot from the age group of '22, where the Flames had 3 picks, and no 1st.

Sucks for them, but why give their government any propaganda value.

I’m a bit surprised Morin did not get an invite - he’s probably the prospect I’m most excited about, even over Honzek.

Agree. And if you are going by the standard most people have then the USA should never be allowed in any international sport anywhere.

He missed a few games early, and hasn't gotten off to a hot start (22P in 26G), so he isn't standing out at all.

It's too bad. But to get a TC invite, you need a hot start, because there are 50 more guys that also warrant a chance.

22 points in 26 GP isn’t a good start for a defenseman anymore?

Tough room.

When you're talking Team Canada invites, for an offensive defenseman, yes.

He is tied for 9th in points in the Q.

Lots and lots of great players don't get TC invites.
