I'm not really feeling this one. i know Ottawa's training wheels are about to come off but this one seems a little skewed. Montreal get 2 RFA-aged players for a rental in Stecher and an older but still decent Teravainen. Ottawa sends money to boot. Not sure it's a fair swap.

I tend to agree with SportsJunky, the deal really isn't that close. Terry is RFA aged, as is Zub.

I think the thing for Ottawa to learn here is the value of RFA guys Vs UFA guys. He is undervaluing those ages and contracts.

I voted yes to this one. I think the RFA status vs UFA status gets over blown in this league. Especially when the UFA is a younger UFA.

Teravainen also is locked in for 2 more years after this year for what is already a value contract. If the plan in Ottawa is to load up to go for a tittle in those 2 years, having a guy that could be rated 72-75 OV at $4.25 mil is the best asset to have in this trade, even if Terry is younger.

Probably overpaid to get it done, but timing is key and what a GM's plan is also key. I'm not sure what his plan is, but he seems to have one and overall has made good trades, so I trust he knows what he is doing.

Quality prospect added too as last year draft was deep.

Artem Zub probably doesn't need to be in this deal.

Yup, the difference between youth and vets does exist but I feel like it’s overblown a lot of the time in this league

Yeah, I understand the reasoning. Terry is still 76OVR. Both players probably rate similarly next year, and TT's cap is good. The prospect makes up the difference.

I think that you eliminate Stecher and Zub from this and it's a fair trade.

It really does. The advantage is the 1M/year savings in cap, but if the vet is on a good hit for 2 or 3 years, there isn't as much difference in value. They are just shinier.

Yes, this is finicky, but the point of the review system is to get right into the nooks and crannies.

When a GM comes in, we review trades to protect him. IMO this deal is not franchise altering trade. Hard part is, sometimes a new GM is looking to buy low on a player or sell high on another and the rest of the league might not share the same opinion.

Terry is good, but he's been the guy on a rebuilding team and getting all the ice time by default. Anaheim is slowly adding some pieces and Terry could be a good sell high guy as it already seems he is starting to share that ice time with younger players with a higher ceiling.

Teuvo could be a buy low guy, he has battled injuries and had a down year last year but could be having a bounce back season. I still think this could go either way over the course of the next few years.

Year 1 - Montreal wins
Year 2 - Ottawa could win.

There is a good chance this goes well for Ottawa next year and this trade isn't killing his franchise, I say let it go through.

Value isn't bad, for the reasons you stated. I like that we all come together to talk about trade value once in a while!
