Will the Flames be doing this? I like the Sharks look.

Flames did it for the Heritage Classic. Looked better, in my opinion. It’s a sharper look overall.

I think they look great. They help provide more character to the away uniforms.

I definitely like the look. I could also see why many teams would complain about it though. If you are the home team, you are wearing dark jersey and dark helmets. If you are caught up in a scrum you may not always have the time to analyze a player's whole uniform and inadvertently pass to the player wearing dark shorts/helmet. This could be an issue when the Flames play another team with red uniforms.

Have you played beer league or pickup hockey? Guys will wear white socks and a dark jersey to try and confuse opponents (or just because they think they're fashion experts). It works 1% of the time. That 1% is on guys who didn't finally start to try playing until they were into their 30s or 40s.

Apparently the league changed the rules this season to allow teams to wear dark helmets with their white uniforms so long as the other team doesn't wear the same colour helmet with their uniforms that night.

Weirdly, the Flames and Wings are the only teams in the league that wear red helmets with their regular home uniforms. Arizona and Carolina have red helmets with their alternate uniforms (although, Arizona's are a different shade of red). All the other teams that wear red jerseys wear either blue or black helmets with them.

Maybe the Flames should make it their thing to wear the red helmets on the road against all the Canadian teams, like they usually wear their alternates against the Canadian teams at home.

I have really been liking the color helmets with white jerseys. Too bad the NHL hasn't allowed two teams to wear the same color helmets in a game. I guess that might offend someone?

I don't like it. It's a competitive sport, not a fashion contest and the teams should be able to tell each other apart in a split second. Like if the Canes were playing the Red Wings, that'd ####ing confusing in traffic

That’s why wearing the same colour helmet is against the rules.

You named the only other two teams with red helmets. So the Flames could wear theirs for their other 39 away games.

Also, some MLB teams have started wearing matte coloured batting helmets and the Canucks are wearing matte black with their flying spaghetti skate jerseys this season. A matte red could look sharp.

What if someone has a dark blue helmet and the other team is wearing a black helmet? What if a player is color blind? To me, it's just more competitive if white jerseys wear white helmets and dark jerseys wear dark helmets.

Beer league? Sure. Wear whatever you want.

It depends too on the helmet advertisers. What contrasts best with their logo?

Teams have been wearing the same colour helmets in IIHF tournaments for years. I have never heard anyone complain about it.

Spoiler!
