The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
my sister got married in EDM the day before and on the drive home I had it tuned to 960 for hours, Peter Maher kept reinforcing that Sutter was telling him this guy was 'for real' and not just a stop gap
then I went to watch him for the first time against Colorado (he had picked up 2 wins by then) and thought yikes, maybe he's been figured out (he let in 6 on 24)
was glad to be wrong

It bothers me every time someone mentions "the next Kipper" in regards to needing a #1 goalie. We may never have one like him again. And that's okay. He was one of the best ever at his position.
I still remember telling my father, who has since passed, that Kipper was going to be good. I was sitting in his truck with him and had a copy of the Sun, and just from reading a couple of quotes from Sutter, I was already convinced.
I mean, I had no idea he was going to be as good as he was... but I had the sense this was no third-string/backup we picked up. I wish I could remember what Sutter said, but then again it probably wasn't so much what he said - it was probably more that Sutter was able to say things in a way that just kinda hit you over the head with how much sense he's making.

Just such an amazing goalie to watch, the athleticism, instincts, and demeanor were incredible. I will go to my grave in the belief that is Luongo is in the hall, Kipper should be too. Superior goalie in every way, with the exception of not being a diving loser.

I'll always remember the first game against Detroit in the 2nd round of the 2004 playoffs. Beating the Canucks felt like the season was won, and I was just happy to be watching another game. Kipper straight up stole that first game, and we all started to wonder if maybe there was more of a chance to compete with Detroit than we all thought.
We got outshot (sometimes grossly) in every single game except the last one in that series, I think.
20 years since the 2004 run.. Jesus Murphy. What an incredibly fun, and massively disappointing season. I don't care if any of my other major sports teams win.. nothing would've been sweeter than that Gelinas goal
