Good to see Vernon get in for sure.
It's interesting because his save percentage isn't really that great (even compared to peers who played the same seasons), but he won a lot. Should open it up to others getting in too IMO.

Both should be in TBH.
Turgeon:
Best Season: 137 points (92-93)
Career: 1327 points in 1294 games (1.03 PPG)
100 Points: 2X
PPG: 11X
Mogilny:
Best Season: 127 points (92-93)
Career: 1032 points in 990 games (1.04 PPG)
100 Points: 2X
PPG: 8X
Doesn't actually seem that crazy to me, Turgeon had the better career.

Its long overdue but this is amazing news. My first favorite player, local boy who won the Cup in Calgary and then helped break a 40 year drought in Detroit.

Nice. Well deserved, won multiple cups and had to change his style from standup to butterfly mid career. Impressive to say the least.

Mogilny was a trail blazer in terms of taking massive risks to pave the way for other Russian players to come to the NHL. And he was a massive international star.
Pierre Turgeon scored 1327 meaningless points. Never won a major personal trophy (I don't think I could be wrong), or a Stanley Cup.
I struggle to remember a single notable moment in his career.
He should be granted admission underneath the "Bernie Federko" clause I guess. Talented, productive player who didn't really do anything of note.

Well deserved for Vernon. I have extra respect for players/coaches who are able to win Cups or find success with different teams.
Shows they are not just a product of the players and systems around them.

Mogilny's a KHL official and with things the way they are with Russia, etc, maybe they put him on hold.

Turgeon was on an Isles team that should have won the cup except for Dale Hunter's super cheap shot on Turgeon - one of the most unsportsmanlike plays I can remember.. He does have a Lady Byng as well.

Saying he did nothing of note is unfair, he's 34th all time in career points and has over 500 career goals.
What did Jarome Iginla do in his career that was so much more impressive than Turgeon? A couple of Rocket Richards? Turgeon played in an era where he had to compete with guys like Lemieux, Gretzky, etc for individual awards.
If guys like Jarome Iginla, Adam Oates, Mike Modano, Brendan Shanahan, Mike Gartner, etc are HHOFs then so is Pierre Turgeon.

I struggle with this because of the way the NHL has botched things. He played in 1294 games and was over a PPG over his career. That's very impressive even if he didn't win anything and I am a believer that winning a cup doesn't define a player as Bourque was a very late career trade away from never having a ring himself. How do you let in middle roster guys like Kevin Lowe and Guy Carbonneau and deny players that were perennial all stars over the entirety of their career as I'm a firm believer in production over intangibles when it comes to HOF. It's not the Hall of Good Guys or Hall of Good Leaders after all.

WOW.
I was convinced this would never happen. Huge Vernon fan growing up, in my mind he's right up there with Roy and Fuhr in terms of goalies who had success in both the 80's and 90's.
The only other goalie I could think of was Tom Barasso -- and lo and behold I see he was named today as well.
