I watch a lot of TV, but for the first time in years since Seinfeld, got hooked on a show that I would clear time for weekly without question.

24.

I can't believe missed the first 3 seasons, but the Superbowl ads in January hooked me into watching the next two nights, and the wife and I were engrossed in it every week until May. As a bonus, I enjoy that there are no repeats through the entire season, no weeks off.

And, for the first time as a result, purchased Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and have been filling the void for the last 7 months with semi regularity in watching those two seasons.

Great lead character in Keifer Sutherland, solid support/revolving cast of characters (President Palmer), solid story line (ok sure some cheesy twists and inaccuracies, but no more then any big budget movie (action or otherwise) I've ever watched) that does keep one guessing.

Can hardly wait until Jan 15 2006 and season 5.

I think it was New York Newsday that described Battlestar as "24 In Space" . . . . and also named it the best show on television.

I'm with you, browna. Of all the shows on TV, the only one that I cannot miss is 24. I was hooked starting in Season 2. I was able to catch up by downloading season 1 off the net (a lot of work downloading 24 episodes!!). I have to admit that last season wasn't quite as good as the others, but still by far the best show on TV.

24 is a great show.

I am really hooked to that one as well. In fact thats what I am going to watch right now!

The Apprentice is among my favourites, as is The O.C.

Law & Order, SVU is also a entertaining show.

For the sitcoms, I still enjoy My Wife and Kids.

I would have to say that The Office (US) is quickly rising on my favorite show's list, I just got into it this year, and was quite suprised at just how much I laughed out loud while watching it. After catching a few episodes of season 2, I quickly d/led the whole first season, and then proceeded to watch some of the funniest moments on TV that I have seen in a long time. Also just managed to watch the 14 episodes of Firefly, and man, I must admit, I was very pleasantly suprised at just how much I enjoyed that series. I was quite leery about starting another Sci-Fi series, after hearing good things about Farscape previously, and I just completey didn't feel that show at all.

I have yet to watch BSG or 24, and it's something that I'm definetely gonna have to look into. 90% of the stuff that I watch, is stuff I hear from word of mouth, and recommendations, and stuff that generally gets good reviews.

BSG has a huge advantage in that it is not on one of the big 4 (or 5 if you include the WB) networks. Thus, it doesn't need to generate the same level of ratings. This is why shows like Xena, Hercules, Babylon 5 were able to stay on for a long time despite relatively small ratings.

Woah woah woah lets backup here.

24 is not a great show. Infact, it's probably the stupidest show on tv. Does that mean that I don't watch it? No. But I recognize what it is, utter garbage. Lets not mix the popular with the good. 24 is popular while being some of the worst tv action ever written.

I don't have cable so I don't watch alot of TV, I just download or rent shows.

I just got into season 1 of Six Feet Under. Wow, that is a fantastically written show.

They really are right about the Colbert Report. I wasn't exactly sure how it would get on, but that "The Word" segment every night is just pure comedy.

I can't stop laughing my ass off during that part.

Also, I really like prison break as well.

1. Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
2. Veronica Mars
3. House
4. Grey's Anatomy
5. Las Vegas
6. Trailer Park Boys
7. Law and Order
8. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
9. Corner Gas
10. Law and Order: Criminal Intent

And really, if you're talking about the best shows of 2005 including those cancelled, Law and Order: Trial By Jury belongs at the top of the list.

If you say so I guess.

I will say exactly the opposite...it's a terrific show with quality writing and exceptional acting at times.

Im just as correct as the knowitall as well.

Take it with a grain of salt. You're dealing with a guy who watches gay porn with "girls".

Listen, I said I watched it and it's good for what it is, trashy action with good hooks to keep you watching but quality writing? C'mon... And the acting outside of Kiefer is close to atrocious, Kim Bauer anyone?

Jeez the more I think about it the more it gets worse. Man, the writing to is just terrible. Writing plot twists doesn't constitute a well written show. I mean in season two a guy planned to nuke all of LA just so that the price of oil would go up. That's terrible writing. Surely you could have wrote better or more complex motivations than that into the character.

What about Jack getting tortured for an hour only to be running across rooftops two hours later? That's an example of unsustainable writing.

But this is my favourite:

1. EXT. A ROAD - DAY

KIM BAUER's cell phone RINGS.

KIM
Hello?

2. INT. HOSPITAL - CONTINUOUS

Kim Bauer's BOYFRIEND is lying on the bed.

BOYFRIEND
Hi its me.

3. EXT. A ROAD - CONTINUOUS

KIM
Oh I'm so glad you're all right!
What's wrong?

4. INT. HOSPITAL - CONTINUOUS

The boyfriend sighs and looks down the bed.

BOYFRIEND
We have to break up...

KIM
Why? I don't get it?

Gradually the camera pans out to reveal the boyfriend has no legs.

No legs!?! He breaks up because he doesn't have legs from the car accident? WTF is that garbage? Ok, I'm ranting. But that is just bad.

Knowitall? Takes one to know one I guess.
