5 Things - Flames @ Red Wings
The most important game of the season is almost always the next one up in the schedule.
And for the Calgary Flames, Sunday's contest in Detroit represents a 60-minute exercise in feeling good about the present as well as setting the tone for the games to come.
With a win, the Flames can come home above the .500 mark.
To do so, they'll need to capitalize on those periods of offensive domination that have become regular occurrences over the past nine days away from home.
PREVIEW: Detroit seeks fifth straight win Sunday against visiting Calgary
Detroit kicked off its weekend back-to-back with a 5-2 victory against the host Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon. Joe Veleno scored twice, and captain Dylan Larkin had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings, who notched three power-play goals in a road game for the first time since March 29, 2016.
Detroit has scored 24 goals through its first five games this season, the third-most in the club’s first five contests to open a campaign in franchise history (25 in 1942-43 and 1972-73).
The good, bad and ugly of the Calgary Flames: Games 1-5
It’s been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster to start the season from the perspective of Flames supporters. This is a team that lost the trust of it’s fan base last season through inconsistent efforts, bad goaltending, losing key games to bad teams, and a lack of fun and entertainment. The 2023-24 Flames, made up of essentially the same core as last season, are going to have to earn back the trust of the fans.
I will be MIA after this game, returning for next Sundays game against the Oil. Next up!

Detroit is looking pretty good so far. Definitely a tough out. Losing Anderson is not helping. They better show up to play or it’s probably not going to go well.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Hoping one of 2 things will occur:
1. The Wings will be down coming off a surprisingly emotional game yesterday and then traveling.
2. The Wings will be exhausted from throwing their arms in the air as often as they did yesterday in celebration and won't be able to or feel like shooting the puck today.

Time to battle as team through the adversity of losing your top PP defenceman. Good opportunity for Weegar and Hanafin to step up (I personally wouldn’t mind seeing Zadorov given a few reps). I hope the team gets up for this one and piles it on the Wings.
Go Flames!

I can't watch this defense with Osterle as a regular. Please call up Solovyov.

Jackets had an OT win in Minnesota yesterday and heavily outshot them 54-23. Sabres handed Islanders their first regulation loss last night and also heavily outshot them 43-25. I know it doesn’t mean much but it’s at least nice to know that these so called trash teams the flames just played maybe aren’t that trashy. Especially considering flames carried the play against both of them.

5pm eastern start time is all good with me! Go Flames!
Edit - so, I'm assuming it'll be Vladar vs. Reimer?

Can't say I'm a huge fan either, but we've only seen him for 2 games?
