Rogers Sportsnet and gambling advertisement
Am I the only one who finds this obnoxious? Every commercial is an ad for online gambling.
Thoughts?
I know this has been brought up before, but I'm getting sick of this.

Content providers are going to sell their air time to those who will pay the most for it.
Business 101.
Until/unless a regulation comes from legislators limiting them some how, it won't change if those buyers feel they are getting value from running them repeatedly.
I would think though, at some point, there will be a saturation of it all and it disipated to some degree.
I really have no issue with them simply because i just ignore it all.

It's disgusting, degenerate garbage. But if they think it's fine to promote gambling culture to kids and it's allowed then of course they won't stop. Sure makes me feel like Rogers are filth though.

What's really annoying is watching a Flames game on the Sportsnet West regional channel and still getting inundated with ads for gambling sites that are only legal in Ontario.

its because most of them are grey market legal in Alberta/other provinces due to "based on a Reservation" loopholes

Think everyone gets that but like alcohol (limitations) and cigarettes (banned) there should be a strict limit on the gambling advertising. It's over the top.

At any rate, as i said, until legislated nothing will change.

I was actually curious so i looked it up.
There is no limit on the amount of alcohol commercials allowed at any time, but there are strict limitations on what can be contained within the ads themselves.
Huh....The more you know.

I'm already sick of the one ad of the guy just interviewing random people asking hockey questions and stating that's the reason you should use a Canadian gambling program. So I should use a Canadian gambling platform because these random Americans didn't know your hockey questions. Get out of here with that garbage.

There will be a war where some sites lose and the giants rise, but not saturation where gambling ads drop off. And that's great for you that it doesn't matter and you just ignore it, but for a significant portion of the population that is definitely not the case. It's disgusting that these are the prominent sports ads during games.

Keep in mind everyone, of all that money paid to Sportsnet by the gambling companies, a good chunk of it goes to your favourite team in rights fees.

Yep, that's always been the case with alcohol, and you can't even advertise cigarettes. But gambling, which preys on addictive personalities and destroys lives (regardless of how you are with it, transplant99) is allowed to be pummelled into the public with aggressive campaigns because....money.

The commercials are whatever. What really annoys me is the segments they do between periods.
Kids watch this and that’s exactly who they’re targeting with these segments. It’s gross. I see it as being no different than if the panellists were drinking beers and smoking joints on air.
I have no problem with gambling or drinking. I do it myself. But it doesn’t need to be normalized as a part of the sports watching experience.

Again though....those segments are sponsored.
In this case by whichever gambling site it may be.
Always follow the $$$ when it comes to this kind of stuff.

But nobody is saying we don't understand why, we understand following the money. The complaints are that our government allow them on TV, in this capacity.
