Great deal and with the cap going up you can make a case Thompson dahlin and adding skinner in for a total of $27 mil is a bargain. Thompson deal might be best in league
I don't think this is a great deal. I think the term is fine for a young stud dman. The price per season is more or less where it should be. But great deal? Naa, it's just right.
The NHL plans to increase the cap to $100M over the next couple of years. Unless that changes he will be a bargain exactly when the Sabers will transition from being a playoff team into a contender.

Based on the increase up comimg this seems highly unlikely. We see a lockout before a 100M cap.
They bet on some big name drafted defensemen in the past and it blew up in their face (Ristolainen for example). Here's hoping this guy pays off long term. I'm hating to see Buffalo have such bad luck again and again.

They need to make the playoffs first
There are a bunch of teams in the east everyone seems to love everything they do. Some of them ain't making it.

Yeah but everything about this guy screams elite/1st pair Dman.
Power also looks like a can't miss guy.
Thats a 23 yo and a 20 yo (who may end up being better than RD)to anchor their dcorps for the foreseeable future. Nice spot to be in.

Using the formula used to calculate the cap, that translates to a cap over $111 million. If the CBA extension that was agreed upon coming out of COVID didn't limit the annual cap increase to 5%, we'd be looking at a cap over $100 million in either 2024 or 2025.

Not a bad contract, Buffalo gambling on quite a few players to continue development. Not sure I see them in a playoff spot yet and cap space is running out. I feel like they have lots of high end talent but very questionable and young (inconsistent) depth, kind of the opposite of the Flames.

John Bean said it in the Fireside chat around the 8:40 mark. It will be a more gradual increase, but based on the league's revenues(last year) the player's share of 50% should equal about a $100M cap.

For sure, they need to become a playoff team first. I see a gradual change of the guard in the east. I see PIT, WSH, BOS, and NYI gradually giving way to teams like OTT, BUF, and DET.
