Good to see Kylington is still at camp. Holding out hope he can return still.

No surprises. Mostly AHL contracts.

Was hoping Kerins and Nikolaev would have shown more.

That’s a shame. Was hoping to see McLain vs Nurse 3 and 4.

What's the scoop on Lyle, Aspirot, Diotte and Gourley?
Lasting longer than guys like Nikolaev and Kerins is kind of impressive.

Huska was praising Aspirot earlier, so he must be doing something right. I think because he is on a PTO as well, they likely let him ride that out before maybe getting an AHL tryout or contract. The other guys sent down already have regular contracts and they want them to start competing for Wranglers spots. Just a guess.

Interesting, because I thought Aspirot really stood out against the Jets—just not in a good way…

I imagine Sutter will be one of the last cuts, he's just such an asset for mentoring the young guys

Clark Bishop is still around. I remember his three crosschecks to the face of some Colorado Eagle early last season

Is Kerins done with junior? One of those long shots that you hope will surprise but probably a bit optimistic.

If he’s aged out of junior, I wonder if he even plays AHL this year .

Kerins played in the ECHL last season. Another year in Rapid City would not be ideal.

Kerins and Nikolaev are really going to have to make the most of their AHL camps. Being cut this early doesn't bode well.

Not really. Both players bounced between AHL and ECHL. The guys remaining in camp proved a lot last year in the AHL with a big season and a playoff run. They've afforded themselves more rope. All Kerins and Nikolaev have to do is have a great year with the Wranglers, and stick all year. Then they put themselves in the conversation again. For my money, Nikolaev is the guy to watch. He has a natural hockey IQ that I think will serve him well long term. Still waiting to see it in Kerins, but he has quite a bit of skill too, so you can't count him out.

Your outlook is more positive than mine. If these two don't make the Wranglers out of camp I think they might be done in the organization. I don't see another season in Rapid City being in the cards for either of them. Nikolaev especially is already 22 years old, it is time to prove you belong in the pros.

With so many spots open for AHL players in this camp for the NHL Flames, that makes a LOT more room on the Wranglers for this year. Both will make that team at least. I'd be shocked if they didn't.

Technically, yes. But you don't want your third round pick spending all his time there and not even a point per game.

From what I understand it’s pretty rare for guys (who play any position aside from goaltender) to make the NHL from the ECHL. Rarer still for guys who aren’t defencemen either, and who spend more than a year down there.

Basically, the odds are heavily stacked against both Kerins and Nikolaev at this point. The chances of them becoming NHLers is low enough, but the chances of them becoming top 9 forwards in the NHL are basically nothing at this rate.

You never know though. We just so happen to have probably the best non-goaltender former ECHL-player in the league in Weegar.
