Should have been the captain a while ago, good to get it done now. Hopefully Backlund doesn’t regret leaving dollars on the table and the team can actually do something the next couple years.

This contract is better for him if he really wants to win either way. Way easier to move than a 5.5x3

A two year deal means Backlund likely ends up 2nd all time in Flames games played.
Well actually, he'll accomplish that this season. But he'd need 1 additional year after this next deal to pass Iginla.
He's already 2nd all time in Shorthanded points/goals after Fleury. And he's already first in Faceoffs won.
