I think Huberdeau might have an issue with that. And it's already started.

Good choice, even if Backlund had re-signed. It's time to give the team to a younger core. Should have been done the second Gio left, honestly.

Francis and others on 960 have been indicating it will be Andersson being named captain for what feels like the whole summer, so not very surprising.
Good choice though, I think the team nailed this one. He's gonna be great. I hope it gives Rasmus an extra gear as well, like what it did with Gio. GFG.

Really liked this quote from Andersson today, as well as the earlier quotes of how he and the team need to embrace the pressure of playing here.

He's matured, but still has that fire in him. And I think his relationship with Huska and knowing the city for 8+ years gives him the edge over Weegar and Huberdeau - when he says Calgary is a great city, I believe him.
If a younger player isn't sure about Huska, Ras is the perfect guy to get them to buy in, since he's been through the ups and downs with Huska and can speak to how he made him a better player.

Fantastic news! Exactly who I thought should get the C. Happy for Raz and excited to see him grow into the new role. Really looking forward to this season.

What makes you think that? All I've seen from Huberdeau since his arrival is a classy, team guy that is a good overall dude who I'd imagine would support Andersson or whoever is named captain.
I'm a huge fan of this move.

I was at the luncheon for the Flames golf tournament earlier today and it was so clear listening to Rasmus, that he wants to be and should be the next captain. He, Coleman, Backlund and Huska did a hot stove and he's ready to lead this team.
Side note, Backlund does not look like nor sound like a guy who wants to be here for much longer...it was interesting given he was being recognized as the MVP from the 22-23 campaign.

Great for Rasmus. Not so great for Backlund. He has been a great Flame, but sometimes when you get to the point of wanting to leave, it is hard mentally to walk that back.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

And it's okay for both parties to turn the page. That's the nature of sports. It won't diminish Backlund's impact on the team, city, and community. But it's time to move on with a fresh voice and a new perspective and passion.

Backlund should have been made the captain right after Gio. It sucks that he wasn't. Andersson is the right guy now though. It could be a blessing in disguise because a captain wanting to leave would not be a good look.
