It was always going to be an uphill battle in New York for him.
Fox, Jones, Trouba, Lindgren, Miller, Gustafsso, Robertson, and Schneider already ahead of him for sure.

Teams still have to keep players claimed off of waivers on the roster, right? If that is the case, then I cannot see that Conroy would have any interest in reacquiring Mackey.

You have to be a pretty bad team (point and case Columbus) where you are digging into the waivers when teams are cutting from split quad size to a manageable roster size within the first week of camp.

I dunno....from what I've seen of Mackey, that guy does not have what it takes at the NHL level.

True, but being cut on the second day of waivers being open doesn’t bode well for his camp so far.

You have to keep them or waive them to send them down to your own team. If you do waive them again, and the original team is the only one to make a claim, they can then send them down without waivers.

Well we kind of did in both Arizona and NY.....yet here he is for free if anyone wants him.
I thought he was going to be a good NHL player but at his age its appearing that he is what he is.....and thats a "tweener" at best.

Spencer Martin claimed by Columbus. Rumours are there were three claims on him: Columbus, Tampa and Colorado. Instead of getting to play back up for a contender, waiver prio sends him to the abyss.

Ehh… Valimaki was playing his way out of the organization with a $1,550,000 cap hit. The Coyotes were so impressed with him, they gave him a 35% pay cut this year.
