		| The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Tom Wilson to a seven-year, $45.5 million contract extension, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Wilson's extension will begin with the 2024-25 season and will carry an average annual value of $6.5 million. Wilson is under contract with Washington through the 2030-31 season.
"Tom possesses all the intangibles needed to win in this League and we are extremely pleased to sign him to a long-term contract, giving him the opportunity to finish his career in a Capitals' uniform," said MacLellan. "Throughout his career, Tom has improved every facet of his game through his drive and competitiveness. We feel his work ethic and leadership qualities will be a tremendous asset to our organization for years to come."

This seems kinda risky with his injury issues combined with his style of play

Contract is worth it when he plays but he has struggled with injuries for a few seasons now.

One of the few that signed a year early, but at those numbers, of course Wilson would sign.

Don’t like this contract at all at 29 years old. I just don’t think he’s a guy that’s going to be effective in his mid-30’s with his style and injury history. That said he will likely be easy to LTIR when he’s no longer effective. LTIRetirement is going to be a regular thing going forward.

The contract is structured so that a buyout near the end does not provide much cap relief.https://twitter.com/user/status/1687476837314658305 |

Brutal contract, damn. That's bad today, let alone in 3 or 4+ years.

Yeah, love the player a lot. But his style if play and injury history the last couple seasons is going to make this a bad signing as early as in 2 years.

If you change that to buyout/permanent LTIR I'd say 3.5 years is the over/under and I'll take the under. Looks like the contract is bonus heavy near the end which probably makes buyout unpalatable.

How many productive years does he have left? 2-3?
He and Kadri can debate who has the worse contract after that

29 now, so I think 37, as it doesn't kick in until 2024-25.

The crazy thing is the caps are already the oldest team in the NHL.They have two more bad years of very old Backstrom and very old Oshie.

I feel like he'll age about as well as Brendan Gallagher. This will be a brutal contract in a couple of years.
