Surprised he choose the sens but he should get top 6 mins and every opportunity to have a good year. Sens will be an interesting team to watch this year along with the other ‘bubble’ teams like Buffalo and Pitty (and Calgary too )

Two pretty good centers to play with in Stutzle and Norris.

Ottawa has a pretty nice looking roster.
I saw an article on a 2020 redraft. Stutzle and Sanderson were ranked 1-2.
I think if Korpisalo is able to play decent the have a legit shot at the playoffs

If Norris can regain his form after an injury-plagued year.

I don't think anyone was offering him more than that in the current market. The only teams he could've signed with for $5M and compete for the playoffs outside of Ottawa were Detroit, Buffalo, and Nashville. I bet one of those 3 teams signs Tatar, while another signs Kane.

Yeah, I would have done that deal. I know, cap space and all that, but if it was possible, I would have loved for the Flames to give that a go.

Could have had that $ and term with the Canes. He should fire his agent. Oh wait.

Ditto, healthy that guy is a 70-80 point player...he's almost never healthy, but still, he's just under a PPG winger.

Powerplay Quarterback

I don't think of him as very injury prone. He had his shoulder issue that cost him like a full year that he came back from and posted over PPG. But otherwise getting hit in the hand with a puck and likely getting covid for a week, things that could happen to anyone, isn't something I would be particularly worried about, and obviously not for a one year contract.
So I think a great move by Ottawa, worst case scenario someone would be looking for a playoff goal scorer at the deadline and Tarasenko has 9 in his last 19 playoff games.

I really wonder how much the cap will go up given the Diamond/Bally fiasco and the absolute chaos that has caused to the regional hockey coverage.
LA doesn't even have a broadcast deal right now.

Teams aren't giving Dinosaurs term right now either. Toffoli won't be getting a 4 year deal in Jersey after this season either. Money goes to the youth now.

Even if revenue stays absolutely flat, the cap is due to increase by about 20% once the escrow debt is fully repaid. As I understand it, the plan is to raise the cap by 5% per year until it catches up with the 50/50 revenue split.
Even if HRR went down by 10% league-wide, we'd be looking at about a $92 million cap for 2025-26. I don't think we're likely to see a bigger decline than that in the short term.

He was widely considered a cancer in the locker room for the past few seasons. Might be productive on the ice but could be horrible for a young developing team

How widely? I’ve never seen this. Not doubting, I’ve just never seen it.

Perhaps this is how rumors start. In St. Louis lots of talk on Tarasenko not signing at the start of free agency. Blues radio saying how it was well known that Tarasenko was not good influence on Kyrou, Thomas etc so young teams should steer clear and only contenders with strong rooms might be able to deal with him. But those teams don’t have cap space. Some thought Nashville would be interested, but Jamie Rivers (a Blues ‘insider’) said ROR hate’s Tarasenko and helped kybosh that
