Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2023 - Round 27

Welcome to the annual Calgarypuck Prospect Poll!

As per usual ...

1. Rank the prospects as you like. Upside, chances, or trade value
2. I will try and do one a day which should get us to rookie camp range
3. Graduates and/or runoffs will be determined in each case
4. Please don't complain that the polls are going to deep. We go until all the prospects are ranked, so don't vote if you don't want to.

No but it’s a serious question. Are the flames even going to sign any of those college guys with what they have done ? Lyle is probably going to be career AHLer, undrafted and rejected by 2 teams already. Chech is probably the only one with a real long shot but are the Flames still counting him? Haven’t heard anything from him.

It's round 27

We run out the list in order every summer. Why disparage the players that are left?

Are you suggesting other NHL teams are 27 players deep in blue chip prospects?

Just pointless.

Two mediocre ECHL seasons for Chechelev on one year minor league deals. He's shown enough.

The organization looks to be running with Murphy and Radomsky in Rapid City.

The one with most upside is Boltmann IMO. He could be a Tanev type d-man if everything goes right developmentally.

Chechelev doesn't have a contract for this season yet (at least not reported anywhere)

Flames lose draft rights to Koumontzis in 10 days.

Nodler is going to his 3rd college program in 3 years trying to find offence at the NCAA level.

Don't know much about Lyle, but it appears that he had a breakout year professionally in the AHL last season.

I think the book is still open for Boltman, know how difficult it is to quantify what makes a D man good. There is a chance he gets a long look after college. A decent comparable is a guy like Dennis Gilbert.

Brady is the only one going to even make the Wranglers this year.
I voted Chechelev though for one reason, I'm not willing to write him off yet after his stellar start to last season (for ECHL standards), but provided the Wolf-Vladar debacle gets solved, he's still at best fighting for AHL backup to Dansk with Radomsky. (If he takes a contract, he's likely been offered a two-way AHL contract, at which point for a goalie you might as well go back to Europe.)

Have I missed something? Has this gone from a stroyline to follow to a full-blown debacle?

I thought Boltman looked decent at development camp. He was also chatting and directing some of the newer prospects. That was pretty cool. He's got natural leadership capabilities.

Lyle has already played more pro games than the others are likely to do, combined.

Hopefully he catches on somewhere in Europe and stews over there for a while. He is still relatively young especially for a goalie.

Flames only have Chechelev's rights for another year. The signings of Murphy and Radomsky has pretty much sealed his fate.

Plus Sergeev probably turn pro for 2024-25.
