All I can get

Morin this round. All-round defenceman who just needs to get stronger.
Poirier still has to work on his defensive game.
I forsee see another deadlocked round.

Morin all the way!
Better offensive and defensive impact in comparison to Poirier.

I think the modern game has a place and even needs a player like Poirier. Other teams have impact defencemen and live with the deficiencies.
Poirier's high end offensive skill supersedes his defensive shortcomings

Both guys look good but Poirier has more offensive instincts, and the best defenseman is the one that scores the most points right?

We call that the "Erik Karlsson-Norris" rule.
I really think people will be surprised at how impactful Poirier is and will be. Game breaking offensive talent. As long as he's passable on defense he's going to be a very good player. He's also a lot closer to being NHL ready than Morin.

Draft Pick

This one is very close for me, but we've seen Poirier's game transition effectively to the pro game. So I'm going Poirier.

Easy Poirier for me. Progressing every year beats a new draftee

Morin with the photo finish win for me just ever so slightly ahead of Poirier, based on longterm upside.

I'm just a contrarian by nature. Oh, and I believe Kerins! will save this franchise.

Etienne Morin had much better production in the QMJHL than Poirier did at the same age. Morin is/was also better defensively. There's a reason he was drafted higher.
However, Poirier had a very impressive rookie AHL year and seems to have improved on his defensive deficiencies. And he seemed to improve as the year went on. He was second on the team in playoff scoring, even ahead of Phillips.
I could see good argument being made for either player.

Morin as my favorite Flames draft pick from the draft and appears to be the higher end prospect at the time of draft but Poirier has exceeded expectations as a pro so if he keeps doing that he could be another Anderson/Kylington type of pick for the team.

Scoring Winger
|
Voted for Poirier, he had an incredible year in the A and proved that his skills translate well to a pro game. I still have some concerns with his straight line skating and acceleration, with him being an offensive dman it is important to be able to recover and get back into position which he can't exactly do right now. He might get exposed quite a lot when he gets called up.
