Early votes for the three that I was considering ... Poirier, Morin and Zary.
Went Zary ... first round pick and solid bounce back from an injury filled first pro season.

I like Zary, but there was someone who did a little better imo: Jeremy Poirier.
2nd in points as a an AHL rookie defenseman, trailing only Ryker Evans. Ryker only had 3 more points but with 2 more games.

I went with Zary here, but gave strong consideration to both Poirier and Morin. The current prospect pool definitely has a decent few intriguing members

Now I begin campaigning for certain players.
It's Jeremie Poirier.
When drafted, he was seen as a purely offensive defenseman who had major holes in his game defensively. To his credit, he took a big step defensively in his D+1 and 2 years in junior without sacrificing his offensive creativity. Went from a -25 in his draft year to a +3 and then a +30. Then he did the same thing, translating his game to the pro level and getting even better defensively in the AHL to put up a solid +/-, all while still making a lot of creative offensive plays and racking up points. He continues to put the work in on the defensive end, and has enough skill to be a TJ Brodie type on offense and defense, but perhaps a little better offensively. I'm thrilled with his progression and so he continues to rise in the prospect rankings for me.
Vote Poirier.

Basically the next grouping of players and it's just a question of the order.

Hmm. I think we have the opposite of shiny new toy syndrome happening this year in the voting.
I get that guys like Pelletier, Zary and Poirier are farther along in their development, but this recent draft was deep by all accounts and guys like Honzek and Morin are just better prospects IMO.

Weird post. Zary was just as good a prospect at his draft time as Honzek. It's just as possible that in three years you will be saying the guy the Flames drafted that year is a much better prospect than Honzek. We really don't know how these players will turn out as a lot of them that look great (that's why teams draft them early after all) at the time of draft end up being busts. If Honzek and Morin are surefire stars, wouldn't other teams have drafted them before they got to the Flames?

I think it's time to vote for D prospects. I like Poirier and I think he will be at least same player as Kylington. But it looks like more people like Kuznetsov at development camp. And I like Morin a lot, but I don't know him as he is just too new.

Morin for me.
Considered Zary too, but Morin could turn out to be a top pairing defenseman who can quarterback the PP. That is something this franchise needs desperately. And yes, Poirier has a chance to be that as well, but IMO, he is no where near as likely to achieve that.

hmm I've managed to talk myself in and out of all 3 of the next grouping in the last few minutes
will go Zary. he's the remaining first rounder, and his 20 year old AHL season showed some nice production and good recovery from injury
the 2 D guys both have a lot to like about them and you could argue they may have more open road than Zary as there are 3 Fs queued up ahead of him

Went Zary, but Morin and Poirier were both right there.

I went Zary here as well but my next tier is 3 Dmen deep because I feel Kuznetzov will be a good player in the NHL even if he is still a year away. Nothing flashy but solid in all aspects.
Poirier has improved where he needs too but still has much work to do IMO.
Morin is the real wildcard at this point and is probably my 3rd choice just for that reason...another year and will have much more of a handle on exactly who he is. His junior numbers are eye popping though, which gives one hope they unearthed a beauty.

I hadn't really looked at the list before, but why is Koumontzis still on it? He'll be a free agent on August 15 and there doesn't seem to be any indication the Flames (or really any NHL team will sign him).
