Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2023 - Setting the List

I'll wait until the prospect camp wraps up before posting round one, but in the past it's been smart to get a projected list up early and argue about inclusions.
The list below is sorted by age.

I would say everyone above the gap is "in", and below arguably "out", but maybe two recently signed older goaltenders should be included? Always a debate.

 Player	AGE

 Honzek, Samuel	18
 Suniev, Aydar	18
 Lipinski, Jaden	18
 Littler, Cade	18

Ruzicka out Radomsky and Murphy - are they on nhl deals even?
Jones, Lyle, Duehr - personally would put them in

Always hard to figure this stuff out. On one hand drawing the line at 24 makes it clean. However, my gut is similar to yours, that those 3 guys are still "prospects" in my head.

As a rule it is more fun to leave people in than take them.

I think Duehr can potentially be left out. He has more or less graduated. Same with Ruzicka.
Jones and Lyle should be on the list.

Are we calling Pelletier as graduated? He did play 24 games, but he was still sent down and is still on the young side. His spot in the NHL roster isn’t necessarily a given, (although it is the closest thing to a lock out of prospects)

Your list looks good, none of the guys you excluded are prospects so no need to include them in the vote.

I’ve always gone with Calder eligibility as the cut-off for the list:
Eligibility: To be eligible for the Calder Memorial Trophy, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league. Beginning in 1990-91, a player must not have attained his 26th birthday by Sept. 15 of the season in which he is eligible.

Walker Duehr played 27 games last year so is no longer eligible. Ruzicka was over that as well. Pelletier at 24 games is eligible but based on how much time he spent with the big club you could argue is graduated.

Is Mark Duarte on a Flames contract? Pretty sure he only signed an AHL contract so I'd exclude him. Same with the 2 goalies they just signed.

It's fun either way and a great way for us die hards to get a month closer to the season.

Thanks again CP admins for doing this |

I kind view Duehr as graduated now. I also personally don't consider AHL guys or invitees without contracts to be Flames specific prospects, although I can see why they would be considered prospects in general. I wouldn't include them on the list, but that is just me.

Flames have until August 13 to sign Koumontzis or lose his rights. He's already playing in the ECHL for a team not called the Rapid City Rush.
By the time the CP rankings wend its way down to him, he'll no longer be Flames property.

Chechelev is presumably gone from the organization, joining the Russian Zombie Flames which features such perpetual reserves like Bobrov, Zainullin, Karnaukhov, Trubachev and Rafikhov.

I would say you can leave off Duarte, Radomsky and Murphy as technically they aren't Calgary Flames property.
Koumontsis as stated above won't be with the organization much longer.

Duehr and Ruzicka I would consider graduated.

Jones and Lyle I would consider as being prospects still.

Calgary still holds Chechelev's rights till Jun.1, 2024 according to capfriendly.

Yeah, the simple answer is a prospect is not a prospect if they'd already played their NHL rookie season. If they've done that and are still back in the A for some reason, they wouldn't be a prospect anymore, they'd just be like every other NHLer who is in the AHL.

Why exclude guys at all? If they haven't become a regular part of the lineup, they're a prospect/
Details like age, upside, etc., will be dealt with in the voting.
