Flames offer Phillips two-year deal. Will test market, "door isn't closed" on return
To keep an eye on...

Similarly, it sounds like Matthew Phillips will hit the market on Saturday. Calgary has made an offer to the Group VI UFA, believed to be a two-year deal, and the door isn’t closed on a return. But for a young player who has been one of the best in the AHL the last few years, more opportunity elsewhere has to be attractive.

Three NHL games, 25 years old. 76 points in 66 AHL GP last year; 7 points in 9 playoff GP.

Damage already done I suppose. Can't blame him, but maybe he circles back.

I think if he gets a significantly better offer he’s gone but if it’s the same or very close to the same he’ll stay

I hope that's a two-year, one-way contract.
As far as I'm concerned, this organization has to earn (buy) his loyalty back after his efforts were not rewarded by a Head Coach that has since been fired.

The only deal Phillips should be looking for is a one way league minimum deal. Gives his team the most incentive to keep him on the NHL roster. If nobody is offering that, I doubt there’s any better place for him to be than back with the Wranglers with a healthy AHL salary.

Sign Carcone or Barre-Boulet instead.

Some have insisted that Phillips wouldn't garner any interest around the league. We're about to find out!

Carcone already re-signed with AZ. Two years, $775k AAV, one-way. Seems to me like the model for what Phillips should expect.

Meh no loss if he does leave. Good luck to him finding what he wants but hard to imagine that there is much of a market out there for a player like him.
If he comes back hopefully he can beat the odds and improve enough that he can become a productive player for us in the NHL.

I expect he won't get anything much better than what the Flanes are offering. I really like Phillips. I believe he is a better player than Yamamoto. However, he is already 25, has barely played in the NHL—and he didn't look anything more than average—and he is tiny.

Phillips was available before with little interest
Sure he’ll get some offers some where but I doubt it would be substantial
Just another change of scenery and hope for better luck

I wish Phillips the best, I don't a huge interest in a career AHLer that's small with limited NHL experience. I think he will resign will Calgary and make a great Wrangler.

I've always thought of him as a match with Tampa. Zero idea if they can fit him in, no idea really why I think he'd fit in there. Just a hunch I guess.

He got pushed around in the playoffs, especially when there wasn't a lot of room on the ice. It was tough to watch. You never question his heart or desire. I don't know if his game can translate to the NHL. Wish him the best!
