replace Nic Meloche
org depth unlikely to play for the Flames very much
Unless they still sign Stone, I wouldn't be surprised if Oesterle spends the whole season with the Flames and bumps Gilbert back down to the Wranglers.

This seems fine. Gilbert looked okay in spurts, but that game where he kept getting burned by the Leafs big 3 was brutal. Bumping him down to the 8D/9D seems like the right spot on the depth chart.

I'm not implying he's a Hanifin replacement but more so adding salary to an already tight cap situation without subtracting. Hanifin is the biggest one being suggested to move right away.
Surprised a signing before Hanifin is moved. Wonder if there's something in the hopper.
I think they would have made a signing like this regardless. A Hanifin trade that doesn't bring a D-man back in return will probably determine whether Stone gets another contract.
