Joining another club as an assistant rather than the Flames seems to hint to me that he felt the Flames snuffed him.

Well, it was after all, one or the other. Fare thee well Mitch.

Hopefully Conroy's first decision turns out to be right. Losing a 2-time coach of the year in the AHL is not a great start imo - but we will wait and see.

Not a straight line to that HC job, seems the Leafs would have a been a good choice but honestly who knows what was available to him.

Odd that yesterday it was reported he had "circled back" to Calgary and a day later signs in Washington. May just be money, who knows.

Well this will turn out one of three ways.

1) Huska could turn into a great coach and in that case then win for Flames regardless of what happens with Love.
2) Huska could turn out to be meh and Love ascend to a great head coach which is a loss for the Flames.
3) They both end up being heh head coaches (assuming Love even gets a shot at head coach anywhere).

Kind of surprising Love left the organization but I imagine he sensed a better opportunity to fast track to a head coach elsewhere. I hope Conroy made the right decision here passing on the more decorated and successful coach.

maybe he figures Carbery has a better chance of getting fired than Huska.

You have to be pretty excited if you are a Capitals fan as it's a great addition to their staff as he could be the next head coach in waiting for them.

Maybe. But they have him a 4 year deal which was kind of odd for a first time coach. Feels like his leash will be longer than others.

Calgary had every opportunity to make him head coach.

He read the writing on the wall and went a different way, which is what we'd all do.

Best of luck to him.

Because the Flames did, as a matter of fact, snuff him.

It's not like anyone else offered him a head coach job
