Default Flames 5 Canucks 2

Flames 5 Canucks 2

- Lindholm breaks out with 3 or 4 points (in debate)
- Huberdeau with a goal and an empty net assist
- Pospisil drives the Canucks nuts
- Flames full money in 60 minute effort

That was the best the Flames have passed the puck all season. Amazing how much better your structure and systems look, when you pass it well.

And amazing how much better Huberdeau looks when the team plays a style suited to his best skill.

No players were under water, but the worst on the night was Noah Hanifin at 50.3%.
Is that a first for this team?

Impressive stuff.

If Pospisil can keep the opponent's top players off their game, it would be a huge contribution.

There was Ferland, and then there was Hathaway... now there is Pospisil.

Guys you hate to play against but you love on your team.

The Backlund line seems to spread the defenders more, giving him more room to pass across ice.

This. Multiple times there was a defenceman anticipating the play and moving up to create an option for a pass… both on the rush and in the offensive zone. Just a huge difference that makes for the forwards on the team when trying to create scoring chances.

I know it’s the old cliche to say that it starts in the defensive zone but in this case it did…simply because the flames were often quick to get possession in their own zone and move up the ice… this made it so the defence were not constantly getting a change in because they were tired from chasing the puck in their own end. Can’t expect much scoring if 2 or 3 guys are going for a change every time your team gets the puck past center ice.

Is this the start of the team learning the new “systems”? I sure hope so.
Tough schedule ahead with Dallas, Colorado and Vegas twice each sprinkled in with Florida, Tampa, NJ.
I’m just hoping for more entertaining games like the last two.

I noticed the D zone play seemed to be much better as far as using zone defence. Lots of crisp switches. Good clearing (after Markstrom made some fine close in saves).

It seemed like they didn’t have their legs at first (game after road trip) but found their game immediately after the Canucks goal.

Was going to say this.

Vancouver had possession for lots of time in the first but they kept them outside the whole time. Reminded me of the Flames of last year skating around the boards and creating nothing.

It's the best the zone system has looked all season.

That was maybe the first two periods that I have ever seen Huberdeau in a Flames jersey consistently moving his feet and trying to play with pace.
