Sounds like the Flames offered him an assistant/associate position

Thank god.
The last thing we need is ex-nucks management/front office running the Flames as they're no further ahead (Thx Dim Jim).

Travis Green was not in the Canucks front office.

Glad we dodged the “former Canucks in our front office” bullet, oh wait

Am I to read that as the Flames offered him an assistant job and he took this one instead?

If he's taking over for Brunette, it's an associate coach position, so it's better.

Travis Green as a rookie head coach forgot what got him to the NHL by the end of his stint with the Canucks. He was trying to force a square peg into a round hole. He took a roster, clearly designed to be all offense and tried to have them play safe, uninspired defensive hockey. Instead of winning some games 7-6 he was losing every game 3-0 with few to no shots and even less scoring chances.

If he learns to coach to strengths, he could be good again.

I like this for the Devils. Green is a good coach, kinda was hoping he would have gotten the Flames job over Glue Gun.

You haven't seen what Rick Tocchet can do yet just wait.

Hes going to coach the skill out of that team.

You're saying this like I think Tocchet was a good hire?

Difference is, Green coached a forechecking uptempo style with Utica. He coached that his first few seasons in Vancouver. Then, to save his job in that last season coached a super conservative game.

I too would take a job next to an old dude who started last season with the crowd chanting "Fire Lindy".

He was in the running in Calgary, he had multiple offers to be a assistant coach in the league. Flames were a the only option for HC but he can't Captain this ship.
Probably see a path to HC quicker in Jersey.
