A little surprised but he brings leadership and maybe he's interested in remaining involved with hockey past his playing days. Guys like him often make for good coaches. I didn't like seeing him on the ice as much as he was played under Sutter but that's not his fault as he seems like a really good guy so I would be happy to see him remain involved in the NHL or Canada hockey post-retirement.

Lucic has a role to play with some team this year. If you can give him limited minutes and plant him in front of the net when on the ice he has a role similar to Perry’s but less mobility. Flames overall aren’t fast and they gave him too much time. On a deep team with more skill where they don’t need too much fourth line contribution he’d do fine. I could see a return to Boston or even NY taking him. He wouldn’t work for most teams though.

After Sutter himself, I think Lucic represents what the team needs to move away from, more than any other player. That may be unfair to Lucic, but perception is what it is.
