Lol this is just silly. Why, but more importantly.. who cares.
If only the league applied this level of due diligence with the Oilers, Mike Smith and Duncan Keith last summer. Also San Jose and its "severance" with Evander Kane.

Who cares? I imagine the players union.

Two hall-of-famers known for their meticulous fitness gave players on the team an option to do an end of season work out and also likely gave those players a list of things they can work on in the off-season.
This is against the rules and the team was fined accordingly. But I suspect those players and the team would do it again in a heartbeat even knowing this is the outcome.
So... what happens if guys play summer league in BC like a lot of guys do, and the Sedins just decide they want to play too? They're 42, they clearly could. Does the team get fined again? How's that any different?

They get fined a larger amount and players suspended with picks forfeited.

I imagine the union is concerned that an optional practice becomes a practice which is optional unless you want to lose your spot or ice time. Judging by the players involved, they could be prone to feeling pressure to attend.

If the Sedins are on the canucks payroll, they’d have to find another league. They can’t be on the ice with players in the summer.
