PREVIEW | Canucks vs. Flames

The Canucks conclude their 2022.23 home schedule tonight against the Calgary Flames, marking the ninth time in history that the club has played their final home game of the season against the Flames. In the previous eight such games against Calgary, Vancouver has posted a 5-2-1-0 record, including winning the past three games dating back to 2009.10.

Flames bring road winning streak into game against the Canucks

BOTTOM LINE: The Calgary Flames will try to keep a three-game road win streak alive when they play the Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver has gone 34-36-7 overall with a 14-8-1 record in Pacific Division games. The Canucks have a 33-10-7 record in games they score at least three goals.

Calgary has a 15-6-3 record in Pacific Division games and a 37-27-15 record overall. The Flames have a 16-13-12 record in games decided by one goal.

Flames expecting ultra-motivated Canucks in must-win Saturday matchup

This is Vancouver-Calgary we’re talking about, and the chance to spoil their rival’s playoffs hopes is as good a motivator as anything.
Article content

“It’s more emotions, when you look at the last five years or even longer, since Calgary beat Vancouver in the playoffs (in 2015), ever since it’s been really emotional and tough games,” Markstrom said. “It’s going to be tough tomorrow and we need to bring our A-Game.”

You certainly spoil us Cheese!

Should be a great game tonight! Gotta come out strong and keep Vancouver from having any hope of playing spoiler. Let’s cause a riot!

My prediction: Fresh off of the exhilarating news of a preds victory in regulation, the flames come out and punch 4 into the Canucks net in the first.

For the rest of the game Vancouver whittles away at the lead until they tie it with less than 53 seconds left.

The flames narrowly win in a shootout.

It’ll be interesting to see if the team that never seemed to be able to get things done all year can finally get it done during crunch time.

Can they defy the odds. Can they pull themselves out of the hole they dug.

I hope the Flames win comfortably but you’ll probably be correct

Game 1 of the first round will be a nice change of pace where we won’t need to consider it a “must win”.
