Default Time machine?

Legit question: If you had a time machine, would you go back in time and become a fan of a good franchise?

Would your experience as a hockey fan enrich your life further if your didn't spend 20-30 years of your life cheering for these no talent clowns of an organization?

It's too late for me most of us die hards, I can't quit following this team even if their play on the ice is discouraging as hell, no more than the rest of you. If you could pull that switch and change your team, would you, if so who?

For this exercise we're looking at the flames organization and management as running a business from an objective perspective. For example, if the NHL were a stock market I doubt the flames stock would be trading well compared to the other teams in the NHL if you took the average value of the stock over the last 30 years. Clown show.

I took my 6 year old boy to the game again tonight. It was his 5th live game as Covid happened and we missed some seasons. We had a good time and cheered loud for the Flames. It's memories like that with my deceased father that I wouldn't trade for anything. Flames lost tonight but the two of us bought Jerseys and were happy to enjoy cheering on the flaming C. So no. Proud Flames fan.

I dunno, for me it's about the journey not the destination. Plus as I get older I find myself rooting more for certain players rather than just certain teams

Colorado probably.

The biggest screw up of every one on both the Flames and city sides was not sealing an arena deal when Ken King was with us. He worked diligently and it should've been his legacy.

The team needs to learn from that lesson as well as others and stop letting results that they aren't proud of drag out a minute long than they need to.

Pulling the plug and starting from scratch is better than duct taping a leaking hull.

NYR and Colorado are proof of what can happen in pretty short order.

Sadly this is what occurs when an internal organizational culture develops values that prioritize ego and a warped sense of pride. Rather that admit they were wrong they double down. Rather than accept the reality and take action in cases like Iggy and Johnny they bury their collective heads in the sand and hope for the best. This is what losers do. Until this organization admits privately and ideally publicly their culture is broken things will not change. When the culture this this rotten, success cannot be achieved even if subject matter experts are brought in. Kadri and Huberdeau, (examples of points production expertise) have been micromanaged by Sutter and no longer know how to apply their skills at work. Adopting an egoless culture from the top down would improve things but it's impossible to see things changing until a change in ownership occurs.

I was a huge Bruins fan before the Flames franchise moved to Calgary. Decided to make the change and support our local team. Yes I'm an old geezer

The 80's were the best IMO to be a Flames fan. The battles between us and the Oilers were legendary. You looked forward to the scraps between Hunter and Semenko or the coaching feuds between coach Badger Bob Johnson and Glen Sather. Those were the best of times.

Today I still follow my old Bruins and marvel at how they always manage to stay competitive and not have to do a total rebuild. Maybe it was luck in drafting the right players and having good coaches and GM's, I don't know. Just wish the Flames could have some of that luck.

I guess when the fork is put into this season I can always cheer for my other team, the Bruins.

I go back in time and prevent Sutter's parents from either meeting, without physically harming either of them.

If I had a time machine, there would be probably be so many things I'd want to do that I would never even think of using it to pick a different team to cheer for.

I would go back in time and be more invested in in the 89 championship. I remember being 3 years old and whining because my dad had hockey on the tv all the time. I had no idea that that would be their only championship and regretting not being old enough to take it all in. I definitely cherished the 04 run and will never forget much of it.

I would still be a flames fan as that’s what my dad was and it’s ingrained in me.
I would love another championship or two but definitely have always enjoyed my team and wouldn’t change it even with a Time Machine.

Could I pick a 'better' organization that actually won some Cups? Sure I could, but it wouldn't be the same - part of the charm of a local Canadian team was how it came to life for playoffs. You can feel it in the air.

So even if this team stays perpetually in the cycle of make playoffs one year and #### the bed the next, I would still cheer for them (and criticize them of course). Even if it's just for a chance to experience two weeks of that atmosphere and the playoff tension.

It's probably the last thing I would do if i had a time machine.

First off, would picking a new team - one where you knew how the future would unfold - truly make you happy? If you picked the Penguins, would the defeat against Detroit and then next years revenge be actually fun? You knew it was going to happen!

I would go back in time, use my knowledge of the future to become a billionaire, buy the team, install myself as GM and go about making the most stacked NHL team hindsight could buy. A nice gift from me to all you degenerates.

With a time machine, I would go back and be a Pens fan number one while cheering for Iggy number two. For the present I'll say this, if I had a young child right now I would just be waiting to see where Bedard gets drafted and buying them one of those jerseys with his name on it. If living in Calgary, sure, cheer for the Flames too, but also be a fan of someone who's going to be fun to watch for the next ten to fifteen years. Living outside of Calgary as a Flames fan myself, I would not raise any child of mine as a Flames fan.

Legit question: do you really believe that your life might be at all different, if your favourite sports team had more success? Does it matter, in any way at all?

If the results of your favourite sports team are impacting your life and personal happiness in any way, I would suggest putting less weight on fandom. Try a hobby that is more rewarding, like exercise, or a dog.

2004 was genuinely fun and provided some great memories. Those good times as a result of cheering for a Flames team that nearly did it all were something special. I would gladly have done that a couple more times along the way but topped off with actual championships. Would it have changed the course of my life? Probably not. Would it have been a lot of fun at the time? Definitely.

When I was a kid I thought this logo was awesome, so I've had the pleasure of cheering for some damn good teams and extraordinary players
