Improving Flames hit the road for clash with Coyotes

Even though the Coyotes are destined to miss the playoffs for the 10th time in 11 seasons, they have proven to be a tough club to beat, especially on home ice.

Arizona, which is coming off Sunday's thrilling comeback 5-4 overtime victory over the Minnesota Wild, has a 3-0-2 record in its last five games.

FlamesNation Mailbag: What record gives the Flames a decent playoffs shot?

The Flames have 16 games left. They have one back-to-back set (Anaheim and Los Angeles), and have just five games against teams currently in a playoff spot. Realistically, they need to probably win 12 games (and get up to 96 or 97 points) to have a fighting chance for a playoff spot.

Coyotes host the Flames after Keller’s 2-goal game

BOTTOM LINE: The Arizona Coyotes host the Calgary Flames after Clayton Keller’s two-goal game against the Minnesota Wild in the Coyotes’ 5-4 overtime win.

Arizona has a 23-32-11 record overall and a 17-11-3 record in home games. The Coyotes are 14-21-6 in games their opponents serve fewer penalty minutes.

Calgary is 14-10-10 in road games and 29-24-13 overall. The Flames have a 13-11-10 record in one-goal games.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they chose not to try, like they did against the Ducks in a game where they had to have 2 points.

Go DET, CAR, CGY!

(Also, seems like we’re headed for maximum pain. Not in the playoffs, not in the Bedard Sweeps, 11th worst to 16th worst in the NHL. As of this AM, 14th worst in the NHL.)

Big win for the Yotes as our one game win streak comes to an end.

I am thinking 4-2

The Flames seem to be doing that inverse thing playing their best against good teams and their worst against bad teams. Would be nice for them to bring their A game and take it to a bottom feeder rather than stumble and fumble their way for 60 minutes.

Losers going to lose.

Phx will win by 6+ tonight, and put the Flames out of their misery.

AZ is on a five-game point streak and Clayton Keller was just named the NHL's first star of the week. He and Barrett Hayton have been excellent of late on the top line.

But ... Nick Schmaltz will likely not play due to injury and we all know what happened in the last game between these teams. Going to go out on a limb and predict a 5–3 Flames win.

The Coyotes are actually a fun team to watch. They're my second team I follow. They don't care about Bedard points, they're happily playing spoiler any way they can. Keller has been out of this world lately, really turning into that franchise winger they drafted 7 years ago.

For whatever reason they love to win at Mullet Arena. Former Flames Ritchie and Valimaki are playing some of their best hockey too.

They started off strong against us last time, but then got bombarded in goals. Hoping for the last part of that statement again. We need to continue rolling with goals.

Hoping it's a four point climb after tonight.

Then it's interesting again.

Great job Cheese!

5 points between the two Ritchie’s. Lucic is playing like an all star in the 4th line.

Sutter will say this is a good effort but we come up short. We need to have more emotions.

Go Flames!

I feel like the Ottawa game was a mirage considering the late game plus DST change that the Sens went through. Pumpkins return tonight as Calgary fails to score and let mistakes ruin them like last game vs the Coyotes, except this time they don’t score to tie/win.
