He was just outright bad at his job.
Last summer Johnny thought he was going to sign in Philly, Hayes thought Johnny was going to sign in Philly…and Philly didn’t even make an offer because of the salary cap. When you have a player of that quality wanting to sign with you, you do what you have to in order to clear cap space.
Instead Fletcher did dumbass stuff like signing Ristolainen to a huge contract.
He was the worst active GM in the league in my eyes.

That in of itself was a fireable offense. You had the opportunity to sign someone for not only 7 years, but probably an additional contract afterwards to finish out his career.

I'm not clear why he wasn't fired last offseason. The guy was a disaster for the organization and should not ever work again as a GM in the NHL.

Ha! Other single word choices of "Fired" and "Briere" were worse.
The app thing was so hokey. Shouldn't get you fired alone, but it tells you where the guy's mind was.
Lastly, I hope to goodness that Fletcher isn't a choice for us if Treliving leaves. The guy is not a good GM.
