They spent most of their season losing meaningful games, but shift the pattern now?

Its a matter of incentive.

Teams are incentivized to win games to make the playoffs, when that is no longer viable they are incentivized to lose games for a better draft pick.

I dont blame people for reacting to incentives that are designed to elicit a reaction.

If anyone wants to complain about it then complain about Edmonton doing it for over a decade, complain about Buffalo, complain about Arizona that has a crapload of dollars on their LTIR just to make the floor.
