Yes! Glad the Flames dodged that bullet. I have no doubt the Flames would have traded for him if they were in a playoff spot today.

That is a ton of turnover for the Leafs. We have seen before with the Flames that it sometimes takes an off season for these changes to pay off (Toffoli). Although 2004 was different, those deadline moves helped right away.
Interested to see the price on this one.

The fact that Flames don't have a 2023 3rd round pick took them out of this one. A 4th or 2024 3rd is obviously not worth as much.
And a 2nd is a big overpay.

He’s on the last year of his contract, the Leafs haven’t won a playoff round since the Flames made it to the cup finals. I don’t blame the guy for making all of these moves

I don’t know about that. Samsonov has been outstanding this year. Giving him better defence should help a lot. They’re not pretenders any more. And they haven’t broken the bank on futures to make it happen. Solid management of assets.

Yeah. Even though these are good players, there are a lot of cases where rentals don't mesh with the new team in such a short time frame and they ended up having been better off not changing anything
