They brought in Johansson at the cost of a 3rd.

They subtracted a 3rd while adding Johansson, a 4th, and a 5th. They're improving now and in the future. Whoa, what an idea!

Definitely not counter productive. You can be a buyer without using up all your cap space. Selling cap space you're not going to use is some very canny managing.

I know you're just trying to criticize people who are being critical of the Flames, but I really don't understand why.

Yeah that probably came off a bit aggressive, but I was legitimately asking. I think there's a lot room for criticism/being upset as a fanbase right now. A lot of fans have also been clamouring for a rebuild for some time now - and while we get excited for every move, no matter how big or small - for it to all come back to a painful season like this...it leaves a lot of us sitting back with a "ugh, we've seen this so many times before" opinion on the organization.

So we then see teams that we're actively competing with (NAS, MIN, WPG) all making some level of changes for now/the future and it's like...well, at least they're doing something to try and improve themselves.

On itself, I think this trade for the Wild is silly when looking at the bigger picture. They're a bubble team and shouldn't really be spending assets just to sneak in. I imagine they feel it's worth it to give their players the playoff experience, but they aren't a contender so this pick for Johansson seems like a crazy waste to me and exactly the type of move I hope the Flames do not make.

There is an extremely large gap between “everything everyone else does is a reason to criticize the Flames” and “the Flames have done a bang up job and are one of the best!!”

Not everything is some indictment on Flames management. And people resisting excessive praise of bland, deck-chair shuffling moves does not imply anything about their feelings regarding the moves (or lack of) the Flames have made.

Why does every single conversation here have to become this nonsense?
