Sending my best wishes to him. I applaud players who put their own well being over hockey

Hope he recovers from whatever he is dealing with.

Applaud the player for saying that he needed help as it is never easy.

God, I feel for Spencer and I hope he gets better soon. That's what south Florida will do to a young man with money. It's a bit of a common theme among young people down here to fall into bad ways with substance abuse. The team really needs to be more careful than most and employ someone to carefully monitor player off-ice behavior.

Here's hoping to a speedy recovery. He's a talented young man, and it would be awful if he couldn't realize his potential because of this.

Edit: I just realized I'm assuming a substance abuse issue, but it may not be that at all, so I should qualify my response with and "In my opinion" or "my guess is this".

Obviously, but it is more common here than a lot of places. Port city and major hub of drug trafficking. Wide availability and dirt cheap prices.

Posted this in another thread:

It snows a lot in Florida. I had a lifelong friend who moved from Calgary to Florida and recently he called me and said he needed help. Went with him to one of his meetings and was told by a nurse that young people moving to Florida from other parts of US/Canada ending up with substance abuse issues is nothing new. It's the sad reality of Florida.

Glad to see he already locked down a 3x4.5M extension before the season started and that those financial pressures aren't interwoven and didn't prevent him from getting this help

That's a relief in some ways, but it's also concerning because it sounds like a mental health crisis now.
