That is a huge bummer for the Islanders.

Also increases the chances the Canucks will get the Isles 2024 1st instead of this years.

Too bad. You add Horvat to make a run then lose your best player

Maybe the Islanders go after Kane now. As for Kane, stillm pretty close to New York.

It’s rumoured that Kane won’t waive to islanders because he was a rangers fan growing up.

I couldn't imagine being so stupid that you would make multimillion dollar decisions based upon a sports fandom.

Sensing there may be some residual salt from this past offseason...

If you had your choice of going to a bunch of teams in a 32 team league who was going to pay you the same, would you select the Oilers?

Also what benefit does waiving to the Islanders get him?

-Unlikely he gets a big deal from them.

-They don't really fit his style of play

-Not like they are likely cup contenders (and he already has 3 cups anyways)

He can hand pick his spot and I don't really see the Islanders as a fit - fandom or not.

I would…so I could take my oilers sweater off mid game and toss it on the ice.

What multimillion dollar decision?

He's getting paid a huge amount of money regardless of any decision.

Its not even just that, take the 'Sports Fandom' out of the equation.

Playing for the Oilers seems like a dream. Rack up tons of points, potentially setting yourself up for a bigger contract...that you shouldnt even get and maybe dont even want.

He's going to be a 34 year-old UFA, he could realistically contentedly retire after this with his 3 Cups, his Hart, Lindsay and Smythe trophies and an Olympic Silver and his ~$115M in career earnings.

Or....

He could get a couple years out of the Oilers and make some 'Private yacht money' for doing very little actual work and take him closer to his 40s if he still feels like playing.

Thats the decision I'd be thinking about.

"How much can I make for the least amount of work possible for a team I genuinely dont care about?"

Barzal's hurt and Horvat looks like he's already back to the level he has been at the previous three years, opposed to this one.

Meanwhile, Beauvillier is riding shot gun with Pettersson and is a ppg player and raking on the power play in Horvat's old spot.

Hockey trades are weird.

But he'll have to live in Edmonton, if that doesn't cause him waking up in the middle of the night with cold sweat, I don't what would.

Ahh, but the best thing about being an Oiler is that you only have to live in Edmonton about 50% of the time during the season.

Yup. He will only move for a real cup contender methinks. Then in the offseasn he will field offers.
