Panthers are going to lose big to the lowly Nashville Predators today, 7-3. It would have been 8-3 but a goal was called back.

Awful, awful game defensively for the Panthers. Just hanging their goalies out to dry today. Bobrovsky has been much better lately, but even he couldn't save them. I'll just quote myself from the other OOT thread.

Jesus...another breakaway given up and Preds go up 4-2. Defender went for a big hit in the neutral zone instead of skating back into the zone. Bobrovsky is yanked, but that's a mercy pull. They just have horrible defensive instincts and I wonder what the hell Maurice is doing to teach these players how to play defense. Whatever it is, it ain't working. It felt like only a matter of time before the Blue Jackets’ injury plague caught up with Johnny Gaudreau, one of the NHL’s most consistent performers.

It finally happened Saturday, when coach Brad Larsen announced the star forward would miss a game against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center with a lower-body injury that ended Gaudreau’s string of consecutive games played at 349 ― third-longest among active NHL players.

“We’re breaking his streak of 349,’” Larsen said. “So, you kind of smile and go, ‘Yeah, that’s kind of how the season’s gone.”

Gaudreau, who leads the Blue Jackets in scoring with 52 points (15 goals, 37 assists) isn’t expected to be out long. He's considered 'day-to-day' despite not making the trip, which concludes with a Sunday back-to-back finale in Tempe, Ariz. Gaudreau is the Blue Jackets' ninth player out of a lineup that’s had at least a handful of regulars missing since early November. He'll be joined by defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov, who will miss his third straight game as a healthy scratch for trade purposes.
