That's an interesting contract, has anyone else signed a 8 year for such low AAV?

This one is interesting. You don't often see players locked up for maximum term in this price range. Normally the max term is for $8MM+ players.

Not too long ago, Samuelsson of Buffalo just inked one at almost roughly the same cap hit, his is slightly higher.

It’s pretty rare. In 2016 Jarnkrok signed for 6 years at $2mil per.

There's only a few - Tuch (7 years but that was a UFA max signing by Vegas IIRC), Kotkaniemi, Matheson.
There's a few mid to low contracts at 7 years - Nick Paul, Sissons, Klefbom, Arviddson, Zaitsev, Killorn, Girard.

I forgot about a few of these. Definitely becoming more common.

I think its important to remember that these are the sorts of contracts you have to take a chance on and hope that you get them to over perform. In the salary cap world, you need value contracts and you can't just rely on milking ELC's and RFA years. Obviously there is risk being tied into 8 years with just about anyone, but when you can get a couple of these to hit, you could really have the extra cap room to do some damage elsewhere on the roster.

These contracts have now become the norm. Sign a player early to a 7/8 year contract based on potential.
