Question First Aid for families & kids - advice?

Are there any recommendations out there for first aid courses that would be appropriate for (pre)-teens and their parents (in Calgary)? I'm overwhelmed with the Google results!

Neither kid has any interest in babysitting so there's no intrinsic motivation to take a course... that's one reason I'd like to find something that would work for the whole family ("we're all doing this whether you like it or not!")

None of us has more than basic band-aid training and I'd like something that at least addresses choking and bleeding... not necessarily CPR though. And I'd prefer something that's broken into a few shorter sessions rather than the all-day 9-4 type sessions I'm seeing when I Google...

Help appreciated!

I took the basic first aid St. John's Ambulance courses as a teen. It was a couple of Saturday afternoons.

Of course, many people look to Facebook and YouTube for medical advice these days.

i did the industrial first aid course thru st john's ambulance years ago - it was one full day course and i learned lots.

st john's is a super reputable organization and it looks like they also offer youth courses, so i'd start there... https://www.sja.ca/en/first-aid-training/youth

I do mine through the Red Cross annually through work. First aid and CPR is a whole day course, and I'm sure they do regular classes.

Same. I do the first responder course through Red Cross bi-yearly for work.
They also have a 2 day course I forget the name of.

Red Cross or St. John's Ambulance would be the ones to check out. They will have varying levels of the course and then recertification every year or two depending on the level of certification. My wife does all of hers through St. John's but that is in Vancouver but I assume similar in Alberta. I think they also offer staying home alone courses and babysitting course for the kids. Cannot remember who we did all of that through.

As someone who has taken many courses over the years, I would recommend St. John's Ambulance.
