interesting. I suspect this number is going to be big if Horvat is skipping out on UFA

Isn't that what Vancouver offered? Same deal as Miller? With an extra year here I suppose.

good for them. I was surprised when they traded for him without a deal in place ... I remember when they traded for Vanek without a deal (albeit much earlier in the season) and ultimately got burned.

Vancouver really effed this up. Choosing Miller over Horvat will hurt them for a while.

Damn I’m jealous. That’s a great contract for a great player at just the right age.

Seems like market value...he is having a career year but has been a 60 point player max.

Seems dumb for Vancouver to lose him over that though

Weird. Never seen a contract for 8.5 years.

$8M per year sounds about right though.

Isles officially win the trade now

I'd say 500k-1 million too much, but to get him long term is a win for them

Last I heard, the highest the Canucks went was 7.

Ultimately, this is the deal I expected him to get and truthfully I am glad it wasn't in Vancouver.

If I had to pick Miller or Horvat on this contract I would pick Horvat, but we got Miller. I certainly didn't want both on this type of deal and ultimately would have preferred neither.

They didn't just win the trade, they fleeced them.

I think the Canucks did OK on the deal. The mistake was putting themselves in position that they had to trade him not the trade itself.

I think they did fine too. There are efficiencies gained on Vancouver's side in doing this trade now - it gives them more opportunities to lose more games and improve their own picks in the 2023 draft.

So they gained a 1st in a crazy good draft, they gained a prospect they seem to like, and then got a "body" for their roster that isn't going to negatively impact their ability to lose from now until the end of the season.

If we fast forward to this time next season and the Flames are in a similar spot to where they are now I'd be absolutely screaming for us to trade Hanifin, Lindholm, and Tanev - and that's effectively what Vancouver has started doing here (I'd actually welcome us trading Hanifin, Lindholm and Tanev right now - I hate this quality of team).
