Default RIP Jim Button

One of the best people I ever met died today and I have a feeling that others on here probably knew him or knew of him too.

Jim Button is a well known Calgarian.

He was an event coordinator, responsible for some major charitable events that raised gobs of money, including for Aids Calgary.

He was one of the founders of Village Brewery.

He was a collaborator with Dave Kelly on various stage shows and other performances.

And that's just scratching the surface.

He was an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a father, a husband and a friend

He has been sick for a very long time and has been documenting his battle with cancer on his blog https://www.gatherwithjim.com/

And along the way he helped others who were in similar battles.

I met and worked with Jim along time ago, when I was working in the local agency industry. He was smart, funny, and made every project great. I looked up to him as a business man but moreso as a human being. I remember thinking that he was just one of those great people that you are lucky to meet in life.

And I know he had that impression on everyone.

I won't pretend to be a close friend of his. I haven't spoken to him for a long time. Which is my failing. But I thought of him often. And I read of his battle. And it made me admire him more.

And I knew this was coming. But when I went to his blog tonight and saw the topic "I died today", it shattered me.

Again, I suspect others on here also knew Jim somehow. If not, you missed out.

RIP Jim.
And #### cancer.

I met him a couple of times. Both through work, he may have been an investor in a start up I was part of nearly a decade ago. I also ended up at a party at his house. I didn’t know it was his house and when I saw that the only beer available was Village I joked about someone being a huge fan. He heard me and smirked. Then my coworker mentioned he was one of the owners and I felt quite the fool.

Funny guy, sad to hear he’s gone.

One of the best Calgarians to ever live, in my opinion. RIP Jim.

Jim is my best friends uncle, and I had the privilege of being an adopted family member for
My entire life. I was lucky enough to watch a World Cup game with him while in hospice and he had a way of making it completely comfortable. Just a few guys hanging out.

The mark he made on this city can be felt everywhere. From community events like circle, to him co-founding Village, playing in a sports league called superjocks and even raising millions for cancer.

Today is a tough day for me because people like Jim are so rare and while he made this world such a better place, he will be so very missed.

I didn't know Jim. He was my Brother in law's cancer buddy. At least that's my my BIL called him. My BIL spoke very highly of Jim and his family. The final post in his blog is beautiful.
