Just want to say that A Rod deserved the boos. Markstrom doesn't.

It’s likely misplaced frustration because the coaching staff has overplayed him for a long time now

Fan base has been as patient as you can ask

Can't speak for anyone else but the only people who jeered Markstrom in my section were Habs fans. It was pretty loud but it was pretty loud when the Canadiens scored too.

Markstrom deserves support and I think fans cheered enthusiastically when he made the next good save.

I buy that

If I was in an away rink, I’d Bronx cheer the opposing goalie in that situation

There were enough Habs fans that it is not just entirely plausible, frankly it is likely

Markstrom earned the right to go game for game with Vladar. He did his job and the save in the third gave the Flames the chance to tie the game.

The shot count flattered the Flames. I would say 5 or 6 were quality shots.

They had some high quality chances but passed one too many times, more than once.

Can we find better high quality shot metrics? These don’t seem to be meeting the eye test. Too much perimeter, too much unobstructed shots that goalies can handle.

Not sure what you were watching ...

The Flames have certainly had games like you are describing ... shot volume but without scoring chances. The game in Tampa was very much like that.

last night not at all ...

See that really dense red area by the Montreal net?

19 High danger chances last night, 10 in the third period alone.

Appreciate that.

Makes sense ... and relieved!

I don't see a problem with the Markstrom stick on Anderson. Ideally a goaltender would be less bothered by something like that but it wasn't vicious or anything. I just don't know what Mangiapane was doing there pretending to be a tough guy. Players have to be smarter than this in the 3rd period of a tie game. Just an awful season for him to date.

Agreed ....

and you can even challenge the guy, but don't try and get him in a headlock and face wash him.

Pretty sure the refs would have left it if he just got in his face and left it at that.

Not me. It's a pattern now and it's costing the team. Mang made a dumb play but it's brought on by Markstrom's reaction.

Pretending to crosscheck the goalie after the whistle could also be called...and how often do those scrums end up in 4 on 4 in close games. Like last game Lomberg attacks Stone after the whistle and they both go.

Tale as old as time that if a goalie reacts, the team comes to his defense. Players still need to be disciplined but if you're Markstrom, you have to be aware your actions cause a ripple effect and are a risky proposition.

When you've been underperforming and already put the team at an early disadvantage in the game, it's frustrating to watch him put himself and the team in harm's way unnecessarily.

It is a tale as old as time, and most of the time no penalties come out of it, because everyone just grabs on to each other for a few seconds and that's all.
Andrew is the one that was an idiot.

I hated playing with temperamental goalies for the exact reason of last night.

As a disciplined player, it was incredibly frustrating as it brought the worst out in players who were more of a live wire and couldn't control themselves. And it seems to always happen in the worst of situations (like last night).

It's hard to control team discipline in the best of situations. Third period in a 1-1 game, just a dumb play to make in my opinion. It doesn't excuse Mangiapane but he's put in that situation by his goaltender.

I think there was plenty of idiocy to go around.

Anderson ###### move
Markstrom over reaction
Maniapane excessive reaction
Referee could have evened it up easily but chose to impact the game

Anderson's move turned into a PP and game winning goal. It was more of a genius move

Scrums after the whistle have been forever grey area. Mangiapane face washing Anderson in the scrum put things in the officials hands and when you do that bad things can happen at any point in any game. It was discussed by Loubardias post game that the team is not as disciplined as it was last season and that's just another issue compounding the team's struggles.
