Dallas Observer
STARS BUSY THIS WEEKEND IN MAKING SEVERAL MOVES
By: Joe Texas

Dallas, Texas- The Dallas Stars completed several trades during the long weekend and they may not be done quite yet. In the first deal the Stars sent prospect Jeff Taffe to the Capitals in exchange for Christian Berglund and a 3rd round pick.

Next the stars made a blockbuster move that shook up the whole Dallas community. Fan favorite goalie Martin Biron, D-man Radek Martinek and RW Eric Boguniecki were sent to the Panthers for Goalie Chris Osgood, Defenceman Andy Delmore, RW Mike Knuble and a 1st Round pick in this year's draft. " This was a no-brainer for us when it was proposed by Dave Penney. We received three quality players and a 1st round pick. We feel our team took a huge step towards making the playoffs with this deal. Knuble and Delmore will both help our team dramatically and Osgood should be very solid for us."

The Stars however weren't done there. Next they sent young promising defenceman Jordan Leopold to the Devils along with Manny Legace and a 3rd Round pick. In exchange they received the talented Chris Phillips and utility man Sandy McCarthy. " Very tough decision for us. Leopold is a promising player and we hated trading him. We felt he would be a strong part of our future. We wish him the best in NJ and are excited to meet Chris Phillips."

In a couple of minor trades the Stars received pesky forward Matthew Barnaby from the Flyers for defensive forward Radovan Somik. Also the Stars added some depth to their defence by getting Mike Wilson from the Preds for prospect Vernon Fiddler. With that move the Stars placed Mike Mottau on waivers so he can be sent down to the Grizzlies assuming he clears.

Recently acquired Mike Knuble is also rumoured to be on the block. GM Roy did have this to say when asked about the rumours. " Mike is a very talented forward and of course some GM's are going to be asking about him. If we receive a good offer of course we will look at it and see if it will help this team. We are not going to trade him just for the sake of trading. We are going to need a good offer that will help us hopefully make the playoffs. If that doesn't happen we are very happy to have him on our team ready to contribute."
