Default Chucky on Spittin Chiclets: "...Sutter wasn't there yet; I was still playing in OT"

Lots of mentioning how free he is to say things in the media now that he's not in Canada. Also, he was not fond of Sutter...

The whole episode is decent. They open up with the Mitchell Miller story out of Boston, and touch on Chucky's and Anderson's suspensions. Really funny story from Tocchet about Berube and Leetch. The Tkachuk segment is actually pretty good and it shed some light on a few things for me.

Chucky's appearance starts exactly at the 1:47:30 mark. Jump to 2:23:42 for the dig on Sutter not playing him in OT.

Edit: The context leading up to the Berube/Leetch story starts at around 1:19:33.

Boo frickin who he wasn’t playing in OT anymore, maybe it’s because his choppy skating can get exposed more 3V3. Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out lol.

I think there were always signs that Tkachuk was a selfish player so this isn't overly surprising. He's a great talent but to me he's the forward version of Dion Phaneuf. Not a leader and not as good as he thinks he is.

He does have alot of confidence. But seemed like not the best locker room or team guy. Betting that’s why Sutter wasn’t fond of him.

I wonder what music he plays in the dressing room.

I view the best 3 v 3 players as the ones that can exploit open space with skating ability and vision to make the best pass.

Chucky seems to me to be a player that excels in traffic which of course isn’t 3v3.

I’ve always wondered if you took the crap out of Chucky’s game, does it make him better or worse?

I don't think Sutter is a team guy. You play the way I say and that's it, ###### the team... seems to be how he rolls.

All indications from player interviews to general info around the room to Sutter himself suggest that individuality would be the polar opposite of how Sutter approaches it. Evidence points to everything being about the team and their 'island' no one can enter versus the league and schedule. Just the team on their island with their system, win together or lose together.

Sutter is completely opposite to this.

Sutter doesn't like when players think about individual results and views success as where the team sits.

Everyone has their part to play on a winning team and that's why he is so dependant on player roles.

At the end of the day who cares if a player has 150 points if the team doesn't make the playoffs.

I think you are bang on here - most successful professional sports coaches generally let thier play play, and ditch the structure and what not.

You should call brad and tell him you can start with the team in two weeks

If there were ever questions about Matthew's character, I think those have been answered.

I’m so far past this guy being on our team. Liked him because he was a flame but for few other reasons other than when he was able to burry the biscuit.

Past him so much when I saw this thread i immediately thought it was Chuck Kobasew speaking of Darryl and the 04 run.

This makes more sense, but still disappointed in no kobasew/Darryl/04 cup run chat.

Guy couldn't produce in the crunch. He couldn't find the line on when being a pest stopped being beneficial and started to be a detriment to himself and his team. Worst of all, the guy isn't going to skate at an NHL level when he hits his late 20s/Early 30s.

The Flames did well to cut bait when they did. Did great when they got what they got for him.

I mean, TBF, Sutter definitely has a shelf life.. especially in 2022 with this generation of players.

The key is, can we crank out some success before the team stops listening to him?
