Hope everything is okay with Kylington. That they are being so ominous with what's going on doesn't give me a good feeling (not that it's any of my business, nor do I want to know).

I don't tend to want to know all the personal stuff. But it's a weird situation. Not physical or he'd be on LTIR. He's not in any league program for substance (and IIRC treliving ruled that out) or mental health. You'd selfishly think there's an avenue for cap relief that's completely justifiable in this situation. Perhaps if it goes on for too long the Flames will get retroactive relief.

I'm saying in the first part generally with most players I don't want to know personal stuff. But this one's just so weird. The rest is just cap related.

Who knows what's going on in his life, but I am also not ruling out the Dustin Byfuglien scenario about whether he wants to play or not and stepping away from the game to get perspective. Maybe pro hockey life isn't a life plan he wants. That can happen too.

Something is wrong clearly, and I am not optimistic he will play hockey this year.

True enough. But it was handled differently:
On September 13, 2019, he was granted an indefinite personal leave of absence by the Winnipeg Jets.[23] However, he was later suspended by the Jets for not returning to training camp, though later reports indicated this was for salary cap relief.[24] He underwent surgery for a high ankle sprain in late October, 2019, without direct involvement of the team.[25]
On February 24, 2020, the Jets announced that Byfuglien would not return for the remainder of the season.[26] On April 17, the Jets and Byfuglien mutually agreed to a contract termination.[27]

I figure it's something family related.

Whatever it is, just from the tone, you know it must be pretty serious.
My gut tells me that if the Flames thought he was not going to play this season, they would have at least said that by now. The fact they have not, makes me think that they are hopeful for a return at some point.

Yeah, that's what I think as well. And being from Sweden makes it more complicated.

Why does everyone pretend they don't want to know? I get it could be personal but he's also a professional athlete being paid millions of dollars to play hockey and he's not, why? I think it's a fair question, no matter the reason, especially when it's very hush hush like this.
I'm curious to know what's really going on, aren't you?

I think there is a natural curiosity, but also is the fact that it's ultimately that no one is entitled to an answer.
I think it's fair to be expecting the speculation as a professional athlete, but if I go on a medical leave at work (which I've done twice in the last two years), it's really between me and my doctor and no one else's business.

Thats where I'm at. I definitely want to know even though I'm acutely aware that its none of my business, not that it makes much difference. I'll most likely never, ever meet or run into Kylington in real life so me having this knowledge makes no difference at all to anyone.
But its the natural element of sports fans, just like I want to know how much each player is making, how they're doing, charity work, etc.

A parent, sibling, nephew or grandparent may be going through something substantial that may not directly be affecting him, but requires his constant presence at home. For me, this is the only thing that adds up if he himself has not been placed in a program or the LTIR.
You really have to hope that everything is alright as it would have to be substantial for him to still be missing time like this.

I just really want to know when he is coming back, that's it. If they said it will be 2 months, or something like that, I probably wouldn't even think about "why" anymore, other than to hope the best for him. Knowing the reason just helps predict the when part, but it's his biz and I respect that. It seems like whatever it is, the "when" part just isn't concrete enough to comment on.

Or if he does play, he'll be out of condition and will struggle to get up to speed OR mess with some chemistry that's (hopefully) been established at some point this season.
I am hoping that whatever the issue is that's keeping him away from the team is one that has some closure and resolution for him.

His not being on LTIR doesn't really tell us anything.
Remember, LTIR is a cap-relief mechanism that teams only use when they need to exceed the cap for replacement players. The Flames haven't needed to exceed the cap yet, so that's why he's not on LTIR. He is currently on regular IR, which is basically the same except it doesn't have cap-relief.
