There won’t be the buzz of a building opening Monday night, but both the Islanders and Flames will be looking to generate a spark when the two teams are slated to meet again in Elmont, N.Y
BOTTOM LINE: The Calgary Flames, on a four-game losing streak, take on the New York Islanders.
New York had a 37-35-10 record overall and a 20-16-5 record in home games last season. The Islanders scored 46 power-play goals last season on 208 total chances (2.5 chances per game).
Calgary had a 50-21-11 record overall and a 26-16-4 record in road games last season. The Flames had a 22.8% power play success rate last season, scoring 54 goals on 237 chances.
There seems to be a lot of excitement around the Calgary Flames. Just not the positive feel-good stories most expected after a 5-1 start turned into a 5-4-1 record.
“Had to shorten the bench a lot,” said Flames head coach Darryl Sutter postgame. “If you don’t have the energy and you’re not very efficient … you should have the energy because you’ve only played nine games in a month. If you don’t have the energy, maybe you have a preparation problem.”
While the Islanders have rebounded from a sputtering start to the season, the Flames have experienced quite the opposite. They roll into town after a terrible 0-3-1 homestand, seeking to “reclaim identity” and all that.

I can point to the Flames' issues in two stats here
Shooting percentage: 8.84%-Ranked 25th
Opponents shooting percentage: 11.54%-Ranked 27th
Holy ####balls. Are they ever due for a massive correction.
Sure, the defense has been spotty, resulting in so many high danger chances, but it's pretty simple: nobody is hot shooting the puck, no goalie has done enough to make the big save (Markstrom's last start notwithstanding).
I do worry about tonight. Sorokin has been very, very good to start this year.
Let's go boys, it's bound to get better. Just a slump and some bad luck as far as I can see.
