Default Devils 3 Flames 2

Devils 3 Flames 2

- Flames keep Devils from getting a shot for the first 11 minutes
- Strong first, sees a Devil push back and a 2-1 lead after 40
- Calgary ties it in the third, only to give up the game winner a few minutes later
- Six straight losses with a total of two points.

I read the scouting report that the Kraken had about the Flames and it’s been stuck with me since.

The Flames generate a lot of shots, but typically from the perimeter. They don’t generate much off the rush, they don’t get pucks across the zone much, and they’re more of a pucks on net and try to get a rebound.

At the same time they give up a lot of chances off the rush and they don’t defend well across the zone.

I keep seeing a lot of that happening, and what’s worrying me is how SLOW they look. Both penalties that led to the 5 on 3 were drawn because of slow back pressure. Similarly the Hischer goal was driven by speed and Weegar getting beat outside.

Obviously good shot suppression the last two games to start the game, but the shots they do allow..

I really want to know what’s going on there. It was happening before Tanev got hurt, and I can’t imagine that Sutter isn’t losing it about that.

Very good points here. I don't know the stats, but I kinda feel like Tanev is really good at preventing successful zone entries, either through gap control or retrieval and getting the puck out of the Dzone. That would limit shots against as you are seeing.

Really wonder if you are on to something that the stats will show.

Yeah this team looks really slow especially when up against young teams like the Sabres and Devils. It's not like they got slower in the offseason as Tkachuk is a worse skater than either Huberdeau or Kadri. They certainly miss Gaudreau in the transition game. The team is also clearly missing Kylington and Tanev. Throw in mediocre goaltending and it's just a mediocre team right now.

Its Sutter's team but should we be looking Huska's way at all with the poor defending?
